PET TIPS FOR 4TH OF JULY!
Fireworks can be highly stressful for many pets. Loud, unpredictable noises, flashes of light, and vibrations can trigger a fear response because animals don’t understand the source of the disturbance.
COMMON TIPS TO AVOID STRESS:
- Keep pets indoors before fireworks begin.
- Create a safe space where your pet can retreat.
- Reduce outside noise by closing windows and
curtains and playing calming music, white noise, or
a television at a moderate volume.
- Make sure their ID tag on their collar and their
microchip registration has your current contact
information in case they get loose.
- Exercise dogs early in the day before fireworks are
expected so they can burn off energy.
- Stay calm when your pet seeks comfort.
- Avoid bringing pets to fireworks displays.
SIGNS OF A DISTRESSED PET INCLUDE:
- Trembling or shaking
- Hiding
- Excessive panting or drooling
- Pacing or restlessness
- Barking, whining, or vocalizing
- Trying to escape
- Loss of appetite
- Destructive behavior
