Cute cavies!!!

Today we are showcasing the King Charles Cavalier Spaniel!

They were bred as companion and lap dogs! And are the ultimate snugglers!!

They were recognized by the AKC in 1995! They were British Royalty’s favorite dog in the 17th century! Most notably King Charles the first and his son King Charles the second. Those monarchs are the breeds namesakes.

We love these cute pups! And love grooming them!!

Happy Monday!! Today’s celebration of National Dog Month is the Bernese Mountain Dog!!

We LOVE these big goofballs!!!

The Bernese originate from Sweden! They were used to drive cattle and pull cheese and milk carts! This breed almost went extinct but was saved through breed clubs in the late 19th and early 20th century!

We love all of our schnauzers!! They are the funniest pups with BIG personalities!!!

Schnauzers were recognized by the AKC as a breed in 1926. They originate from Germany! And were used as ratting dogs!

Happy Wednesday! We are highlighting Cocker Spaniels as our continued celebration of National Dog Month!

We love Cocker Spaniels! They are the biggest love bugs!! And so stinking sweet!

Cocker Spaniels were recognized as a breed by the AKC in 1878! Often referred to as merry spaniels for their happy-go-lucky and playful personalities! The breed was used as bird dogs. In fact part of their name derives from the Eurasian woodcock birds that they used to hunt.

We love grooming these pups! And there coats have endless possibilities!

Happy Monday!! We are highlighting the Pomeranian as we celebrate another week of National dog month!!

We have many Pomeranian clients and love their spunky personalities!!

The Pomeranian was officially recognized by the AKC in 1888! They are a recognized toy dog breed, which originated in what was formerly known as the Pomerania region, but is now Poland and Germany! The breed originates from larger Artic and Spitz working dogs. Queen Victoria is credited with making the much smaller standard of the Pomeranian more popular.

There’s no coat like a poms coat! Their coats are thick and fluffy! They are double coated and shed like crazy!! But their fun personalities make up for all the hair! 😉

To end the week and add to our celebration of National Dog Month! We are posting about the Akita!

We are so lucky that we have not one but TWO that visit us!! And we LOVE having them!! These two are the sweetest gentle giants and big goofballs!!

The Akitas originated in Japan! They were officially recognized by the AKC in 1973!

The Akita are very confident dogs, and not well suited for first time dog owners, they require someone knowledgeable about their breed! They are often described as stubborn and willful, but also extremely loyal!

At one point in history only the imperial family in Japan owned Akitas! The breed still has cultural significance in Japan. Sometimes when a child is born in Japan the family is gifted a small statue of an Akita which signifies wishes for health, happiness and a long life.

Today’s breed to celebrate National Dog Month is the Australian Shepherd!!

We love Aussies!! They truly are one of our faves!!

The breed was actually developed in the United States and has become the top pick for ranchers and cowboys alike! These herding dogs are great at the job!

They were accepted as a breed by the AKC in September of 1991!

These dogs are so intelligent and loyal! They love to be active and by their persons side! They can also be the biggest goof balls!

Today’s showcase breed for National Dog Month is the Shih Tzu!!! 🐾

These cute, friendly pups are Sudsy Puppy’s most common dog breed we see in the salon!!

The Shih Tzu was created in China by imperial breeders in the palace, they developed the Shih Tzu centuries ago and they lived the life of royal lap warmers! The breed remained hidden behind palace walls for hundreds of years until about the 1930s! The words Shih Tzu means “Lion dog” and they have been a beloved breed for centuries!

They were recognized as an official breed by the AKC in 1969! And we can all understand why so many can’t resist these cute, snuggly pups!
