Important Reminder for All Dog Owners & Katieās K9s Families!
Itās that time of year again š£š
We have been hearing about kennel cough going around, so we wanted to share a few important reminders to help keep everyoneās pups healthy and safe!
Kennel cough is a contagious respiratory illness that spreads easily between dogs. A dog carrying the infection can be symptom free for days before displaying any symptoms which makes it even harder to stop the spread of the infection.
Symptoms to watch for include:
* Coughing
* A dry, hacking or honking cough
* Gagging or retching, almost like something is stuck in their throat
* Sneezing or a runny nose
ā¼ļøIf your dog is showing any of these symptoms, please DO NOT bring them to daycare or boarding. Contact your veterinarian and check with us before returningā¼ļø
It is so important to make sure your dog is up to date on their Bordetella vaccine, along with their other recommended vaccinations.
The Bordetella vaccine DOES NOT guarantee that they wonāt develop kennel cough, however it can help reduce the severity of illness.
A few extra things we do here to keep a safe and healthy environment-
* Regularly wash and disinfect food and water bowls, toys, and other frequently used items. We sanitize all surfaces daily and sanitize each water bowl every hour or each time it empties. Our cleaning process takes over a hour at the end of each day. Every used item and touched surface is sprayed and sanitized before start of daycare the next day.
* Washing bedding, blankets, and other washable items regularly.
*Scooping the back yard multiple times a day.
*All balls are soaked at the end of each day and all toys are sprayed and cleaned after every use.
*Gates and doors and handles cleaned daily.
Most importantly, please be honest with us about any symptoms or possible exposures. Keeping a sick dog home can prevent MANY other dogs from becoming ill. We care for dogs of all ages, including seniors and dogs who may be more vulnerable to respiratory illnesses. What might be a mild cough for one dog can become something much more serious for another.
We have a 0 tolerance policy for withholding information about your dogās symptoms or possible exposure to illness simply to avoid canceling daycare or boarding. We understand cancellations can be inconvenient, but intentionally putting the health and safety of other dogs at risk is unacceptable.
We work SO hard to maintain a clean, safe and healthy environment, but keeping everyone safe is truly a team effort between us AND all of you wonderful families.
