THIS IS SARAH VINN, RUDY THE RETREIVER AND THERE NEW RESCUE DOG!! WE BUMPED INTO EACH OTHER AND WERE CATCHING UP ON OLD TIMES AT THE DOG PARK!

I’VE TAKEN RUDY TO SEE SANTA SHE WAS AT OUR DOG PARTY!

I started her socialization with pack and tandem walks. Then we did introductions and greeting on her property and mine. Started with Smokey but kept adding more friends, and she did great!!

I have a tendency to spoil the 💩 out of dogs in my care because I would do this for free anyways! 😆😂 I remember one of her first stay and request for boarding, I spent so much of my own money and probably have my pay on toys treats and enrichment for both her and Smokey. Basically, I didn’t have much left but to splurge and indulge myself on fried chicken and mushrooms. And you would be surprised how perfectly happy and content aI was with that.

Rudy got her own custom bone on my wall. A hand painted decorated and custom nylon tote with her name on it, to keep and carry all the supplies she comes with and I send her home with too. Still till this day the soft spikey rubber ball I gifted her is still her favorite of all time ball. And this girl loves her balls!! She’ll stuff her mouth full like a squirrel collecting acorns.

Me and Smokey had such wonderful memories with Rudy and a great relationship with Vynn and Sarah too! I took Rudy to see Santa, she joined our dog pawties, and overall I truly enjoyed and felt blessed to have the opportunity to know and work with her.

AND IT WAS SO NICE TO HEAR DOG MOM AND DOG DAD TELL ME THEY BELIEVE AND FEEL I WAS THE BEST DOG TRAINER THEY EVER MET AND THANKED ME FOR EVERYTHING I DID FOR RUDY! PARTICULARLY EARLY, CONSISTENT, AND GROWTH IN SOCIALIZATION SKILLS AND TRAITS! ! RUDY FOUND HERSELF A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART AND SHE STILL HAS A BONE ON MY WALL TO REMEMBER ALL THE GOOD TIMES! !!

IT WAS GREAT TO SEE HER AGAIN AND REMEMBER OLD TIMES!! I NEEDED THAT! AND GETTING POSITIVE FEEDBACK FROM PEOPLE WITH DOGS THAT I HAVE ACTUALLY WORKED WITH, MEANS A LOT! 🐾🦴🐶🐕

This is Smokey Dad Copper on the left, and Smokey now 5 1/2 pictured on the right. I think I know where the grey hair comes from. If looking for an ethical breeder for boxer puppies, cannot say enough good things about Angie Smith!! Smokey was one of my best return on investments my entire life!!!

Good breeding matters! I am very proud of my success with Smokey as a handler but I know I could not have done it without the grade A clean slate, working and show dog potential, I got to start with!

Any questions on developmental training or how I trained a boxer to medical alert and for public access, ask me any questions you like!!

Puppy Walking: 9–26 Weeks — It’s About Development, Not Distance

When I start working with a puppy, I don’t look at walks as simply a way to tire them out. From a developmental training standpoint, a walk is one of the puppy’s earliest classrooms.

Between roughly 9 and 26 weeks, puppies are going through incredibly important stages of neurological, emotional, social, and physical development. The goal isn’t to see how far a puppy can walk. The goal is to teach them how to experience the world successfully.

At 9–12 weeks, I start very small. A “walk” might only mean going outside for a few minutes, following me around the yard, walking a short stretch of sidewalk, or sitting somewhere and watching the world.

At this age I’m introducing:

• Following a human naturally
• Getting comfortable wearing a leash and harness/collar
• Checking in with the handler
• Different surfaces, sounds, smells and environments
• Cars, bicycles, people and other dogs from a comfortable distance
• Learning that new things don’t automatically mean danger
• Recovering calmly when something surprises them

At 12–16 weeks, I gradually expand the puppy’s world. Walks can become a little longer and environments a little more interesting, while still keeping the experience appropriate for the individual puppy.

This is where I begin building things like loose-leash habits, name response, engagement, recall foundations, impulse control and confidence.

At 16–20 weeks, puppies often become increasingly curious and independent. Instead of constantly correcting them, I want to teach them how to make good choices.

See another dog? Look, process it, then check back in with me.

Hear something strange? Investigate safely and recover.

Want to chase something? Learn that responding to your handler is rewarding too.

By 20–26 weeks, adolescence is approaching. Puppies may suddenly become more distracted, more confident, more cautious about something they previously ignored, or seemingly “forget” things they already learned.

That doesn’t necessarily mean training failed. Development isn’t a straight line.

This is why I believe puppy walking should be about quality rather than mileage.

I don’t want to physically exhaust a growing puppy or force them through situations they’re afraid of. Growing joints and bodies also deserve consideration. Exercise should be age-, breed-, health-, and puppy-appropriate rather than based on a rigid “minutes per month of age” formula.

And socialization does not mean making a puppy greet every person and dog they encounter.

One of the most valuable things a puppy can learn is:

“I can notice something without having to interact with it.”

That creates dogs who can walk past other dogs, people, traffic and distractions without believing everything in the environment belongs to them.

By six months old, my goal isn’t simply to have a puppy that knows commands.

I want a puppy who has learned:

Follow me. Check in with me. Explore the world. Think before reacting. Recover when something scares you. Trust me when you’re uncertain. And understand that the leash connects us—it isn’t something you’re supposed to fight against.

That’s the difference between simply walking a puppy and using walks as part of developmental training.

One of my favorite affordable ways to keep Smokey eating well and make his food a little more enriching is making homemade frozen Kongs and what I call his “meat popsicles.” 🐶🧊

I make a big batch using mashed wet dog food, shredded chicken, cooked beef, a little sausage, rice, and broth, mix everything together, then stuff it into Kongs or freeze it in ice cube trays.

It stretches the ingredients surprisingly far. I made a batch quite a while ago and I still have an entire tray left in the freezer, so it isn’t something I have to constantly remake or spend money on.

The frozen Kongs also give Smokey something to lick, chew and work on instead of just inhaling a bowl of food. Freezing it makes a relatively small amount of food last longer as an activity, and the extra moisture from the wet food and broth is another nice bonus.

But the biggest reason I keep making them is because this mixture genuinely helped me get Smokey eating again when he had his tummy problems. When his appetite was terrible and he wasn’t interested in his normal kibble, I needed something soft, appealing and easy for him to eat. Chicken, rice, wet food and broth gave me a way to gradually get calories, protein, fluids and food back into him.

He had lost a significant amount of weight, and by the time we got back to the vet, he was only about 3 pounds away from his goal weight. ❤️

Now I can make a batch, freeze it, pull out exactly what I need, and waste very little. It turns inexpensive ingredients into meals, treats AND enrichment.

Sometimes taking good care of your dog isn’t about buying the most expensive products. It’s figuring out what works for your dog, using what you can afford, and getting creative with it.

And Smokey definitely approves. 🐾❤️

One of my favorite ways to keep Smokey healthy, happy, and mentally engaged is with a frozen Kong filled with real food.

Today’s recipe is a mixture of:
🥣 Wet dog food
🍗 Real, dog-safe foods
🦴 Bone broth
❄️ Frozen overnight

Why are frozen Kongs so beneficial?

🐾 Mental enrichment. Dogs have to lick, sniff, and problem-solve to get every bite, which provides healthy mental stimulation and helps reduce boredom.

🐾 Slows down eating. Instead of gulping a meal in seconds, dogs work for their food at a natural pace, which can aid digestion.

🐾 Cooling on hot days. A frozen Kong gives dogs a refreshing way to cool down during the summer while staying entertained.

🐾 Supports emotional well-being. Licking is naturally calming for many dogs and can help them relax after exercise, during quiet time, or when left alone for short periods.

🐾 Adds hydration. Using bone broth or adding extra water before freezing increases moisture intake, which can be especially helpful during warmer weather.

The best enrichment doesn’t have to be expensive. Sometimes it’s simply taking your dog’s regular meal, making it a little more interesting, and letting them enjoy doing what dogs were born to do—work for their food.

Smokey definitely approves. ❤️🐶

I also attached some pics of one of my clients, THOR, enjoying one as well ❤️

Looks like the dogs appreciate and are already enjoying their handmade frozen treats! Glad I made a huge batch! These two can plow through them like you would not believe!!! Cannot find a healthier or better dog treat or snack, especially while enduring these hot summer days!!

Dogs deserve real food that fuels, heals, refreshes, and rehydrates them too!! First mixture I combined several cans of newly ordered and opened pedigree wet food smashed. I added 4 or 5 cans of Vienna sausage, chopped up. Mixed in two cans of shredded chicken, and combined together.

First, I filled 4 kongs with this mixture, and wrapped them and placed them into the freezer. For a tasty, cool, refreshing, and enriching snack and prize later. Hot summer days like this, there is no such thing as too much when it comes to hydrating refreshing nutrient dense food, snacks, and supplementation.

I then filled all the ice cube trays I own with this mixture and topped off the trays with beef broth and filled up my freezer with them. Once frozen, I will separate the cubes and feed them to Smokey all throughout the day. It is nutrient dense supplementation and additional hydration at the same time, and tasty too.

I then made another batch of smashed pedigree wet food, mixed with 2 cans of shredded chicken, and added a whole bunch of rice, the rest of the beef broth with additional chicken broth for moisture. All together makes for a very nutrient dense snack or meal.

I filled all of my paw and bone shaped silicone molds with this mixture and a couple bone shaped mats filled with puré liquid beef broth for frozen popsicle liquid hydration later.

What remained of that mixture I served Smokey a large hefty filling nutritious dinner for tonight. I used the large Tupperware I mixed the batch in to preserve healthy home made real food meals for Smokey the next 3-5 days at least. Any spillover was put into a ziplock, and both were placed in the refrigerator.

Now Smokey has all his meals and additional nutrient supplementation and even enriching kongs, beef broth popsicles- all pre prepped for next 3-5 days, maybe longer. I made and prepped a lot of meals and refreshments, so they should last awhile.

It’s always fun and cute when the bone and paw themed trays freeze and are pulled out of the molds. I will keep them frozen in ziplocks or Tupperware. Ready to eat and enjoy for Smokey or any of his friends. Very cute and fun when they come out in fun themed shapes.

I had a medical and health emergency and was separated from Smokey for about ten days. Smokey is 5 1/2 and I think the longest we have been apart is 3-4 weeks while I was transitioning between housing in Holland and Grand Rapids. It is not uncommon for dogs to loose their appetite or not want to eat much, at least for awhile, when separated from their owners. He was eating, just not a lot.

I keep Smokey very lean, fit, and athletic, but I was shocked how easily he lost weight and how little he could afford to loose. His ribs and pelvis bones sticking out way too much for my personal comfort. He doesn’t seem to be enjoying the bag of dry food he is on now, & had a bad reaction to a different brand of wet food that was donated to us.

Dog mom to the rescue! Having real food and meals prepared for the next several days will give his system a chance to refresh, recover, and get back into a healthier rhythm. The wet food, Vienna sausage, shredded chicken, rice, and bone broth meals are nutrient and calorie dense, and fingers crossed will help him pack back on the lbs he lost.

A little extra time, money, and effort, but more than well worth it. Hopefully he will be beefed back up and feeling back to the best version of himself in no time. I love this pup of mine!

I did not choose the name Pampered Pet Palace by Sarah for no reason at all! I loved doung stuff like this as a stay at home mom. Not much has changed, I enjoy doing it for and pampering my pet too!!
