🎉🥳 DOUBLE THE BIRTHDAYS, DOUBLE THE TROUBLE! 🥳🎉

October brought us two reasons to celebrate at Carrier Animal Hospital! 🐾🎂

Help us wish Dr. Carlie (again) and Desmond a VERY Happy Birthday! 🎈❤️

These two bring so much laughter, personality, and heart to our hospital every day! Whether they’re caring for our furry patients, keeping the chaos under control (or occasionally contributing to it 🤣), or making our workdays a little brighter, we’re so lucky to have them on our team!

We hope your birthdays are filled with love, laughter, cake, and absolutely ZERO unexpected emergencies! 😂🐶🐱

Happy Birthday, Dr. Carlie and Desmond! We appreciate you both more than you know! ❤️

P.S. We’re still trying to figure out who wore the birthday glasses better! 😎🎉

Texas requires veterinarians to complete 17 hours of CE each year to keep their license active. One of the best ways to learn is by attending conferences (whether local or afar). Not only does a conference allow us to learn directly from some of the top veterinarians in the country to keep updated on advances in anesthetic protocols, husbandry for exotics, and learning about new species like chickens (and capybaras for fun!), it also allows for networking and reconnecting! Such as meeting up with a mentor from Michigan and her colleague, as well as befriending a licensed technician from Houston! And while most of the weekend is spent learning, we took a night to explore San Antonio and visit a local ice bar (you can take the girl out of the north but you can't take the north out of the girl!)

Today marks 50 years since Dr. Cooper started at Carrier Animal Hospital as a fresh-faced, newly graduated veterinarian! In a field that suffers from burn-out, compassion fatigue, and increase risk of su***de, it is inspiring to work beside someone who continues to have a passion to treat pets after 5 decades. When Dr. Cooper graduated vet school, there were only 33,000 practicing veterinarians, 1,500 board certified specialists, and emergency clinics (strictly for after hours) were nearly unheard of! Dogs required a daily heartworm prevention (the first monthly preventative was invented in 1987- can anyone guess the name of it? Hint: it is still widely used to this day!), and really were not taken to the vet unless they were sick- routine dental care and yearly exams were not common! The feline leukemia vaccine was not created yet either! Dr Cooper experienced the massive growth and technological advances in our field, and has seen dogs/cats change from "pets with a job" to companions and part of the family. He continues to provide us all with a wealth of knowledge that can only come from this experience! Whether you've been a client of his since the early days, or you are new to the clinic, thank you for being part of his journey. So if you see Dr. Cooper out, please say hi and congratulate him on this amazing milestone!!

Meet Ginger!! She’s so adorable. She already has us wrapped around her tiny hoof. She has that curious, expressive face that tends to make everyone stop what they’re doing for “just one more cuddle.” 🩺💕
