Root canal treatment is a very common way to treat your pet’s broken tooth, and there are a lot of great reasons to choose root canal treatment over extraction of a broken tooth. We recently met Wonky who is 6 months old, and was born with a cleft palate. She was brought to WSVDOS for surgical repair.

A cleft palate drastically affects our pet’s quality of life. It is a defect in the hard and soft palate, creating an opening from the mouth to the nose. Cleft palates can be congenital (occur during development, and noticed at birth), or can happen later in life due to an injury. Either way, if your pet has one we can help to surgically correct them so your pet can go on living their best life! 🐶 🐱 🦷👨‍⚕️

Also known as uncomplicated crown fractures, chipped teeth may seem minor on the surface, but they expose the tooth to possible infection, and can cause oral pain for your pet.

If you notice a chipped tooth in your pet’s mouth, don’t assume it’s just cosmetic. A dental exam can determine whether the tooth is healthy or needs treatment.

Fact: Missing teeth aren’t always missing.

Sometimes a tooth that appears to be missing is actually trapped beneath the gums. That’s important to know because an unerupted tooth, or retained tooth root can cause pain, and may lead to damage of the surrounding bone, and soft tissue if left untreated.
