Look at how this Laney x Cash pup has grown!! Echo (blk/wht dog alongside a red/wht BC)was born this year in January and is already in training for her future job! She is one smart, stylish, and gritty pup! If we had kept female from that cross it probably would have been her just cause she reminds me so much of her sire, Cash, with those markings.

Her owner is a member of the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture’s Stock Dog Team. It’s the only program in the US that allows students to bring a herding dog to school and actively learn to handle and train them for herding work.

Once again I could not be happier with where all my puppies have landed. ❤️

We spent our Sunday out in Hudson, Colorado participating in a cattle trial jackpot. It was a really fun time catching up with friends and meeting new ones. Thank you to all who put in the hard work to make the day happen.

Cash had a good run and placed 2nd. Kate felt a bit like a free spirit today but we will give her some slack as she is pretty hormonal at the moment. Roscoe did so well for his first time at any type of away trial. I was really happy with how well he took his stand commands. He was not very convinced there were cattle at the far end of the arena 😂. The big thing about going out today was looking at what we have got and what areas I need to work on with all my dogs. It can be a tall order to go and put yourself out there in any trial environment. At the end of the day I think it helps me be a better trainer though, pushing me out of my comfort zone and making me see the whole in my training that need attention.

Till next time, That’ll Do.

Tried something a little different the other day with Roscoe. I left him down in the arena and worked him from up top. Need to work on strengthening his inside flanks but I am really happy how he managed his stock. I tried to stay relatively quiet and let him figure out how to make movement, yet not lose control of his stock. For a big, gangly boy, he can be quite graceful at time.

Have you ever seen such a beautiful sight ?❤️
We love seeing the dogs we trained out doing work ❤️

A ABCA Border Collie does not always look the way you think they would. Both these females are purebred Border Collie and once you see them working stock there will be no doubt in your mind.

Today we competed at the Aggie Classic Cattle Dog Trial. We only got to run on one of the days because of prior commitments but something is better than nothing. Great run by Cash and Kate. I got a bit worked up when running Kate so I caused her to waste some time. Hoping I can settle down before out next trial. 🤞

In the stock dog world, folks tend to gravitate towards females or males. People have a lot of opinions on which makes a better working dog, male or female. I don’t have a preference myself as I feel I have had good dogs from either s*x. If you asked me on a deeper level though, I would say the females I have worked are grittier and very clever. The males I have worked tend to mature slower and are very focused on pleasing their handler.

What are your thought?
Which makes a better working dog: male or female?
