May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month

Here in West Michigan, we’ve seen a significant uptick in tick activity this season (no pun intended… but it’s true). The risk for tick-borne diseases like Lyme is higher than ever for both people and pets.

Dogs are especially at risk, and many don’t show obvious symptoms right away. That’s why prevention is so important.

A few simple reminders:
• Keep your pet on a reliable tick prevention year-round
• Check your pet (and yourself) after being outside
• Talk with us about Lyme vaccination and testing options

If you have any questions about protecting your pet this season, we’re here to help.

We wrapped up National Veterinary Receptionist Week in a pretty special way at Robbins Road Animal Clinic.

Each of our CSRs received a custom portrait of one of their own pets and the reactions said it all.

To our incredible team Penny, Brenda, Madison, Amanda, Dani, and Nicole, thank you. You’re the first voice our clients hear, the steady hand during stressful moments, and a huge part of what makes this clinic feel different. The care, patience, and effort you bring every single day does not go unnoticed.

We’re lucky to have you, and this was just a small way to show it.

From Exam Room to Center Stage!

One of our very own patients is part of a family with a star in the making!

At Taavis’ last visit, we heard all about this exciting role in the Lakeshore Middle School production of Annie and we couldn’t be more proud to cheer her on!

It’s always special getting to care for pets and families right here in our community, and even more fun when we get to celebrate moments like this. From routine checkups to big performances, we love being a small part of your journey.

Be sure to wish Taavi some good luck this week as she takes the stage!

Understanding the Different Types of Visits at Robbins Road Animal Clinic

To keep things running smoothly and ensure every pet receives the care they need, we schedule appointments based on visit type. This helps us manage our time, reduce wait times, and make sure a doctor is available when your pet truly needs one.

Here’s a simple breakdown of the two main types of appointments we offer:

🩺 Doctor Appointments

These visits involve a veterinarian and are scheduled for anything requiring a full physical exam, diagnosis, or medical discussion.

Yearly Exams – Wellness checks to keep your pet healthy and up to date
Rabies Vaccines – Legally required to be administered by a veterinarian
Sick Pet Visits – Vomiting, diarrhea, itching, wounds, or growths
Puppy & Kitten Visits – Early exams and vaccine planning

🐾 Technician Appointments

These are handled by our trained veterinary technicians and are designed for routine or supportive care that does not require a doctor.

Booster Vaccines & Heartworm Tests – Routine updates to maintain protection
Nail Trims & A**l Gland Expressions
Fluids – Subcutaneous hydration support when prescribed
Laser Therapy – Treatment to help reduce pain and inflammation

If you would like a doctor to evaluate your pet or discuss any medical concerns, a Doctor Appointment must be scheduled. This ensures the doctor has dedicated time to perform an exam and go over any questions with you.

Please note: fees may apply to both Doctor and Technician appointments. A standard office visit charge will apply any time a doctor is involved in your pet’s care.

Scheduling the correct appointment type helps us keep the clinic running efficiently and ensures that pets needing medical attention have time set aside for them. If you’re unsure which appointment your pet needs, just give us a call. We’re happy to help.

Thank you for your understanding and for trusting us with your pet’s care.
