🐴 Breakfast on the patio with Miss Tora! As you can see, Miss Tora prefers to enjoy her breakfast with her head hanging out the window so she can keep an eye on everything happening around the farm. 👀😂
Of course, little Miss also manages to drop a good portion of her hay onto the sidewalk in the process. But don’t worry, nothing goes to waste! Her hay gets tossed right back into her stall so she can continue munching throughout the day.
On the rare occasions when our horses stay inside due to rain or inclement weather, we always make sure their windows are open so they can look outside, enjoy some fresh air, and stay entertained by the activity around the farm.
Tora never fails to make me laugh when I catch her enjoying her breakfast this way. Apparently, breakfast just tastes better when it’s served with a view! 🥰🌻

🌻✨ Another exciting milestone for one of our young Sunflower Lusitanos! ✨🌻

Urquiza d’Noble “Izzy” experienced her very first saddling yesterday, and we are nothing short of amazed by this beautiful young filly!

Owned by Stephanie Prato, Izzy is just 2.5 years old and already stands close to 16hh! With her impressive size, sturdy build, and love for work, we decided it was time to introduce her to the saddle and begin the next phase of her starting process.

🐴 The groundwork leading up to these moments is what truly makes the horse.

At Sunflower Lusitanos, we believe that a successful start under saddle begins long before a saddle ever touches a horse’s back. The countless hours spent developing confidence, patience, understanding, and trust through groundwork are what prepare our youngsters for each new experience.

Izzy was completely calm and unbothered throughout the entire process. From having the saddle placed on her back to being girthed up and moving freely with it, she took everything in stride as though she’d been doing it her entire life!

This is exactly what we strive for when developing our young horses. We don’t want them simply tolerating new experiences; we want them to feel confident, comfortable, and mentally prepared for what we’re asking of them.

We couldn’t be more pleased with this lovely filly and are so excited to continue watching her develop!

With fewer than 10 rides under his belt, my 3-year-old stud c**t, T’Stark d’Noble “Stark,” is already blowing me away with his maturity. 🌻

This past Sunday was full of new experiences for him. We started in our outdoor round pen, riding through puddles and just messing around. From there, we ventured out and rode around the farm for the very first time.

We then headed into our indoor arena—only his second time ever being ridden outside of the round pen—and shared the arena with a mare. Afterward, we simply hung out together. No stallion antics, no fuss, no drama. He was calm, relaxed, and completely content to stay in work mode. Oh, and did I mention all while in just a simple rope halter?😉

With fewer than 10 rides, I’m not concerned with how much he can “do” under saddle (although he can already happily offer the walk, trot, canter, steering, backing up, and halting). What matters most to me right now is creating a confident, willing young horse who can calmly process new environments, new situations, and everything that comes along with being a riding horse.

These are the moments that remind me why we put so much emphasis on the groundwork and preparation before ever getting in the saddle. The goal isn’t to rush them—it’s to give them the tools they need so that when we introduce something new, it simply feels like another day at work.

So incredibly proud of this young stallion. Stark continues to show me that a strong foundation creates confidence, maturity, and a horse who is ready to take on whatever comes next. 💛

Love getting pictures back from Regionals! 🥰📸

Quiche, Quixote XX, had his very first Regional Championship experience, and I couldn’t be more pleased with how he handled the entire week. He took in all the sights and sounds of an incredibly busy venue and continued to show growth and confidence as the weekend went on.

The funny part is, I had absolutely no intention of even trying to qualify Quiche for Regionals this year—never mind actually attending!

At the beginning of the season, my only goal was to get him out, give him positive experiences, and continue developing a happy, willing, and confident partner in the show ring. He completely exceeded those expectations, earned his Regional qualifying scores, and we figured… why not bring him along for the experience?

I knew Regionals would be a big, electric atmosphere, and that was exactly the kind of experience I wanted him to have. By the end of the weekend, he was confidently hacking around the busy venue and taking everything in stride.

Now we head into our quieter season with some great things to work on and another really valuable experience under his belt. So proud of this young horse and excited to see where we go from here. 🌻💛

“Only the essentials…” right… right 🤣🐴

We are just about packed up and ready to hit the road for the Regional Championships at HITS Hudson Valley tomorrow! 🌻🏆

We’re especially excited that one of our Sunflower Lusitanos, Quixote XX “Quiche,” owned by Diane Thomas, will be attending Regionals for the first time this year! 🇵🇹✨

What an incredible experience for this youngster and another great opportunity for him to gain mileage, confidence, and experience in a big-show atmosphere. We’re so excited to have him along for the adventure!

Regionals, here we come! 🌻💛 We’ll keep everyone updated as the week progresses. 😊
