My 3-year-old stud c**t, T’Stark d’Noble, hanging out on the crossties all tacked up like a seasoned pro. 💛

This may not look like a particularly exciting training moment—but it says a lot.

We don’t just train our young horses to become show horses. We want to develop horses with confidence, patience, self-regulation, and utility—horses that know how to simply exist comfortably in the world around them.

Yesterday, Stark was tacked up and ready for his 6th ride under saddle when I realized I needed something from my car at the top of the driveway. So, I left him on the crossties while I ran out to grab it.

A 3-year-old stud c**t.
Newly Started.
Tacked up.
Mares nearby.
Standing quietly by himself.
No babysitter. No fuss. Just patiently waiting for me to come back.

And then we went on to have his 6th ride under saddle—which I also did completely solo.

To me, this is just as important as what happens in the saddle.

It’s not enough for a young horse to be a great show prospect or a great stallion prospect. They need life skills, too.

They should learn to be confident as individuals rather than becoming herd bound. They should be comfortable being left alone. They should understand how to stand patiently while being groomed and tacked. They should be able to process their environment without constantly needing reassurance. And they should develop the ability to regulate themselves and remain relaxed.

Those skills don’t magically appear when a horse gets older. We intentionally build them from the beginning.

The ribbons and show results may be what people see, but moments like this are what create the horses we’re proud to put our name behind. 🌻

✨Kinda chic to own a Lusitano!!✨

💁🏻‍♀️ I HAD to hop on this trend!
Owning a Lusitano is truly such a privilege. A breed steeped in rich history, tradition, and centuries of thoughtful breeding—and somehow, they’re every bit as special as their history suggests.
There’s just something different about the partnership with a Lusitano. Once you experience it, you understand. 🤍

🐴 An inside look at how we bring along the young horses we start in our program.

T’Stark d’Noble “Stark,” my personal 3-year-old stud c**t, is shown here during just his 4th ride under saddle.

Our philosophy with young horses is simple: begin slowly, build understanding, and make the work enjoyable. When a horse feels confident and understands what is being asked, we find they quickly begin to offer more because the work is a partnership, not a fight.

We start all of our young horses under saddle in a simple rope halter. Each ride begins with soft flexion, encouraging lightness, relaxation, and suppleness. From there, we ask for that flexion again and then use the seat and leg aid to ask the hindquarters to move, followed by the shoulders, eventually putting those pieces together into a soft, forward bending motion.

These exercises give us an opportunity to make sure there is clear, quiet communication between horse and rider before asking for more.

Once Stark feels soft, relaxed, and connected, we begin our forward flatwork—first establishing a nice, purposeful walk and then allowing him to move forward into the trot, all on a loose rein.

At this stage, we aren’t looking for a “finished” picture. We’re developing confidence, balance, responsiveness, and most importantly, a young horse who enjoys his work and wants to learn.

Slow beginnings create strong foundations. 🌻

The beautiful Urquiza d’Noble “Izzy” owned by Stephanie Prato having a little photoshoot the other day! This gorgeous red mare is developing nicely and will begin a light under saddle start later this winter. Izzy is already 15.2hh and should easily make 16hh… making her a perfect future dressage mount for her mom, Stephanie. I’m incredibly pleased with this match up and am excited for their future together!
