The truth is, we believe many veterinarians and veterinary technicians share these same concerns and opinions. Unfortunately, far too many have been silenced, intimidated, or afraid to speak openly because of the power and influence of those in positions of authority.

What she wrote was honest, courageous, and desperately needed. People should not be afraid to speak the truth about their experiences.

It’s time for veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and the entire veterinary community to stand together. We cannot continue allowing fear, intimidation, and bullying to silence people.

When good people stay silent, nothing changes. It’s time to stand up, speak out, and demand accountability.

You’ve probably seen the word “meal” on a dog food label. But have you ever stopped to ask what it actually means?

Chicken meal. Meat meal. Meat & bone meal. Animal by-product meal.

They may sound similar, but they don’t tell you the same thing.

As we learned in our last post, rendering takes animal material and processes it into concentrated protein meals and fats. “Meal” is one of the ingredients that can come out of that process.

And here’s something important: the word “meal” by itself does NOT mean the ingredient came from 4-D animals. Rendering also processes ordinary by-products from animals slaughtered for human consumption.

What matters is the entire ingredient name—because some names tell you much more about the animal source than others.

At Dogs Choice, this is exactly why we keep asking questions.

Not just: Does the food meet a nutritional standard?

But also:

What are the ingredients?
Where did they come from?
How were they processed?
And what are we actually putting into our dogs’ bowls?

At Dogs Choice, we believe you should know how the ingredients in your dog’s bowl got there.

Rendering takes animal material and, through grinding, heat, separation and drying, turns it into ingredients such as protein meals and animal fats. Those ingredients can then be used to manufacture pet food.

Is rendering automatically bad? No.

But we believe there’s a big difference between simply reading an ingredient name on a bag and actually understanding how that ingredient was made.

That’s why we’re showing you the process—not to tell you what to think, but to give you information that rarely makes it onto the front of a dog food bag.

Why is Dogs Choice talking about rendering?

Because we believe dog owners deserve to understand how their dog's food is made—not just what the front of the bag says.

Dogs Choice was created by questioning the typical highly processed kibble model. Rendering is one part of that story. Animal materials can be processed into concentrated meals and fats that later become ingredients in pet food. Those ingredients may then undergo still more processing before becoming the familiar pieces of kibble poured into a bowl.

We believe knowing that process matters.

Our position isn't that every kibble is the same or that every rendered ingredient is poor quality. It is that dog owners should know what they're feeding, where those ingredients can come from, and how extensively they may have been processed.

Dogs Choice believes better nutrition begins with better questions.

Know the process. Read the label. Ask what your dog's food really is.
