Things Mastiffs are pros at:
1. Doorway blocking. Their sheer size makes them world-class at being an immovable object exactly where you need to walk.
2. Drooling with Olympic-level distance and accuracy. A good head shake can redecorate a wall, a ceiling, and an unsuspecting guest in one motion.
3. Snoring at a volume that rivals a table saw. Genuinely competitive with some power tools.
4. Being unaware of their own size. They'll try to sit in your lap like a lapdog, or squeeze onto a dog bed built for a Chihuahua, completely undeterred by physics.
5. Being absolutely impossible not to love. They just lean their giant head on you, sigh dramatically, and make eye contact, and suddenly you've cancelled plans, given up your side of the bed, and started referring to yourself as "just the staff."

What would you add to the list?

Did you know the famous “English Mastiff paw” is actually a real attention-seeking behavior and not just a cute habit? 🐾🐶 Many English Mastiffs will gently place their paw on people, other dogs, or even objects when they want attention or want to stop something. It can feel like a polite tap… but sometimes it turns into a full dramatic paw slap if you ignore them long enough 😂

Historically, English Mastiffs were bred to be loyal, intelligent companion and guard dogs with calm yet playful personalities, and they quickly learned how to use their paws to communicate with humans. So when your giant little Mastiff puts their heavy paw on you during dinner, they may look adorable, but they are basically saying, “Excuse me, I believe I should also be included in this situation” 😌🐾

It’s one of the funniest and most lovable behaviors of the breed, and once an English Mastiff learns it works… they will absolutely use it for the rest of their life 😂🐶
