🌡️🐾 What Is Heatstroke? 🐾🌡️

As temperatures rise, it’s important to remember that dogs don’t cool down the same way we do. Dogs primarily regulate their body temperature by panting and through a small amount of sweating from their paw pads.

A normal dog temperature is 99°F–102.5°F. When a dog’s body temperature rises beyond what they can safely manage due to extreme or prolonged heat exposure, heatstroke can occur—and it can quickly become life-threatening.

🚨 Signs of Heatstroke – Seek Veterinary Care Immediately if You Notice:
• Heavy or rapid panting
• Difficulty breathing
• Excessive drooling or thick, sticky saliva
• Bright red, pale, or gray gums
• Weakness or lethargy
• Stumbling, wobbling, or confusion
• Vomiting and/or diarrhea
• Collapse
• Seizures
• Unconsciousness

⚠️ Moderate to severe heatstroke is a medical emergency.

If you suspect your pet is suffering from heatstroke, move them to a cool area, offer small amounts of water, use cool (not cold) water on the body (neck, armpits, inner thigh) and seek veterinary attention immediately.

☀️ Prevention is key:
✔️ Never leave pets in a parked vehicle
✔️ Always provide fresh water and shade
✔️ Avoid strenuous exercise during the hottest parts of the day
