Hi Robb!

From Virginia to the Maine North Woods, Robb Moore found a place that felt like home.

Now a Registered Maine Guide, Maine Upland guide, and accomplished outdoor writer, Robb is right where he belongs—on the tailgate, getting one of his Brittanys ready for another day chasing wild grouse and woodcock through the Maine coverts.

For Robb, like the rest of us, the dogs are a huge part of what makes the uplands special. The anticipation at the truck, the bell disappearing into the cover, the point, the flush—and another story to bring back to camp.

Virginia roots. Maine home. Brittanys out front. Wild birds ahead.

Wild birds. Great dogs. Good food. Big country.

Few names have left a mark on the bird-dog world quite like Delmar Smith. We’re saddened to hear of his passing but grateful for the legacy he leaves behind.

Delmar spent a lifetime shaping not only exceptional bird dogs, but generations of the people who trained them. His belief in patience, understanding, and a gentle hand changed the way countless sportsmen and women approached their dogs—and his influence will endure for generations to come.

When we featured Delmar in the February–March 2016 issue of Covey Rise, writer Tom Davis put it simply: “No one has witnessed more bird-dog history than Delmar; few have made as much.”

Our thoughts are with the Smith family and all those who knew, learned from, and loved Delmar.

I always enjoy watching competent dog trainers in dense, highly urban areas; seeing how creative and dedicated they are in getting the job done is always inspiring. After removing the owner as a possible factor, I see no environmental reasons for being unable to solve dog obedience issues.
