Spark Rescue Santa Barbara

Spark Rescue Santa Barbara is a non profit 501c (3) charity rescue organization whose focus is finding permanent homes for disadvantaged dogs and cats in southern Ca.

We do not have a shelter, but are foster based only. Spark Rescue Santa Barbara is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit charity animal rescue organization, founded in February 2014, in Santa Barbara Ca. We are a foster based rescue that relies on people opening their home and hearts to saving animals in need. Spark Rescue Santa Barbara provides:

Rescue, foster care, veterinary care, and sterili

zation for animals in county animal shelters that would otherwise be euthanized. Rehoming for animals surrendered by their owners who either can no longer provide for their pets or no longer wish to have them in their homes. Adoption of rescued pets to qualified homes that have been properly screened and counseled by our adoption coordinators. Foster homes to provide our rescues with a loving home environment. We believe a dog or cat will do far better adjusting when they are part of a family then to be cared for in a noisy kennel surrounded by sick and barking dogs. Spark Rescue Santa Barbara's Vision
Our vision is to end euthanasia in Southern Ca by bringing adoptable pets (that were slated for euthanasia) into our program for social rehabilitation and re-homing to permanent loving homes. To educate the public on the importance of spay and neutering their pets! To provide help for those who cannot afford to have their pets altered. To sway our government to have harsh penalties for people that continue to breed their pets without a breeders license. We want to be a valuable resource to our community. We believe that one person can make the difference in the life of an animal, so as an organization, we have more strength to help more animals. Spark Rescue Santa Barbara's vision in the near future is to acquire land and have the ability to rescue and house as many animals as possible. A place where the animals will be free to roam and socialize but still be in a family environment. Where potential adopters can come visit our rescues. Where volunteers can come together and give the rescues as much love and attention as possible. If you are able to foster an animal in need please contact Spark Rescue Santa Barbara. We do require a commitment from you to house and care for the animal until the animal is placed in their forever home. We do understand that many people love animals but cannot afford to donate but may have items they are no longer using we are always in need of collars, harnesses, leashes, blankets, beds, potty pads, toys, crates etc. Your donation is tax deductible. 🐾 Meet Heidi 🐾

This sweet six-month-old pug has an inspiring story. Born in rescue after her mom, Haley, was picked up from the streets, Heidi was given a second chance when no owner stepped up during her 10-day hold. A huge shoutout to Rae and Mia for stepping up to foster Heidi’s mom and ensuring they made it to Santa Barbara safely🏡❤️

Heidi is incredibly sweet and well-socialized with both dogs and cats. She adores all people and is well-trained in potty, crate, and leash manners.

🐾 Meet Onyx and Ophelia🐾

These adorable pups are almost 4 months old and have already surpassed our expectations! Since they were just 8 weeks old, they’ve been potty trained outside and have excellent recall.

🛁 Bath time? No problem! They both handle it like pros and don’t mind getting their nails trimmed. Ophelia loves to be held and cuddled, while Onyx prefers to keep his feet on the ground, eagerly greeting new friends he meets along the way!

Onyx-Currently 10 pounds, expected to grow to 15-20 pounds.
Ophelia-Currently 4 pounds, likely to stay under 10 pounds as an adult.

Both pups have been raised around dogs and cats too🐱

This adorable 11-month-old female Chihuahua Terrier mix is on the lookout for her forever home! After her mom was abandoned while pregnant, a kind-hearted Good Samaritan swooped in to save the day, and now Posey is ready to steal your heart!

From the moment she pranced into our lives, Posey’s stunning markings and those adorable tufts of fur around her one eye captured our attention. Though she’s a bit more reserved than her playful siblings, her sweet and loyal spirit shines brighter than ever! Can you believe that at just eight weeks old, these pups were already showing off their impressive manners? Fast forward nine months, and while her siblings have all found their happily-ever-afters, Posey is still waiting for her family! Posey is crate-trained, leash-trained, and housebroken!

💔🌈 It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our sweet Priscilla late this afternoon.
Priscilla had been fighting a tumor that unfortunately burst on her backside. After a visit to her veterinarian, the tissue was found to be necrotic, and there was no way to help her feel good or comfortable again. She had no energy left to even stand and was being gently hand-fed in her final days.
Even in her hardest moments, Priscilla was wrapped in love. We send our deepest sympathy and gratitude to Lucy Esparza and her family, who were fostering Priscilla. Lucy gave her extra time, attention, and care—far beyond what anyone could ask—while also looking after her own dogs and client dogs. Thank you, Lucy, for making sure Priscilla felt loved and safe when she needed it most.
Priscilla was truly loved by so many. We also want to thank her previous fosters, Owen, Anne, and Emily, who each temporarily opened their homes to her over the past year.
Sweet Priscilla, you are free from pain now. Run free over the rainbow bridge, beautiful girl. 🌈 You will be missed more than words can say.

🐾Meet Teddy 🐾
This sweet 1-year-old Terrier Poodle mix (Terripoo) weighs just 14 pounds and is a very active, smart boy who is good with cats. He would thrive in a home with another young, playful dog and a person who is home most of the time.
Teddy is super affectionate and loves to cuddle. He’s also incredibly smart and needs stimulating toys and activities to keep his clever brain busy — we’ve already started teaching him to go through a play tunnel and he’s doing great! He can get overstimulated during play and may bark while trying to calm down, so he’s looking for an experienced dog-savvy adopter who has the time and patience to help him continue his socialization.
Teddy can be a little unsure when meeting new people at first, but he warms up nicely with a few tasty treats. He’s crate trained, leash trained, and house trained, and he’s ready to settle into his forever home.
One important note: Teddy is fearful of children. It took him a long time to adjust in his previous home, and there was an incident where he nipped a visiting child who wasn’t paying attention to him. For this reason, we’re looking for a home without young children or frequent visits from kids.
Teddy would enjoy another confident, active dog about his same age and size to play with — he has a tendency to be a bit bossy with older or more vulnerable dogs. He’ll also need regular grooming, since his coat picks up everything!
If you have another playful dog (and possibly cats), are home most of the time, and are looking for a loving but selective companion who needs mental stimulation and a stable environment, Teddy could be the perfect match.
