A couple years ago I wrote into the Granger Smith podcast.
I wrote in during a stressful time where I was feeling completely overwhelmed with work, family, and trying to fix up our place.
It seemed like every time I turned around something needed fixed. I could not get ahead to save my life.
So drowning in the stress and overwhelming feelings I wrote to Granger. I ended my email saying “it’s hard for me to take time for church when I get nothing out of it.”
Going to church just felt like I was checking the box that said “went to church this week”and nothing more than that other than I had a couple less hours in the day to get work done.
Granger responded to my message. The one comment he made that ended up changing me was “This will probably upset you, but I don’t know if you’re really a Christian then.”
He wasn’t saying that because I wasn’t in church every Sunday. He was saying it because my mindset was completely wrong about who God is and what church is for.
We shouldn’t be living a life where “we cuss on them Mondays and pray on them Sundays.”
Being a Christian means we should be living differently than those that worship the world and it’s not just on Sunday during church.
Before my heart was so focused on worldly concerns and not on the goodness of God and the many ways he’s blessed us when I clearly didn’t deserve it.
Christianity isn’t just engaging in religious activities, it’s a relationship with Christ that results in a rewiring of our minds and affects the lifestyle we choose to live.
Just to be completely honest, this doesn’t mean I’m just miraculously perfect now. But when life does as it likes to do and throws a lot of challenges at me, I try to see it as my opportunity to handle it better than the old me would have.
Change can be painfully slow but just like training horses the best way is little consistent steps with right intentions in our hearts to be better.
Romans 12:2
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
