May 14 = International Chihuahua Appreciation Day 🐾

Tiny body, huge personality. Chihuahuas don’t do anything halfway—and we’re big fans of it.

A few fun facts about these little legends:
• They’re named after the Mexican state of Chihuahua
• One of the smallest dog breeds in the world—but often the most confident in the room
• They can have either smooth coats or long, flowing coats
• Big ears = great hearing (and excellent neighborhood watch skills)
• Known for bonding closely with their people (aka your tiny shadow)
• They tend to live long lives—many into their mid-to-late teens

We see a lot of Chihuahuas who run the entire household—and honestly, we respect it.

Camping season is almost here… and it’s better with your dog 🏕️🐾

A little prep goes a long way in keeping them safe and making sure they have a great time:

✔️ ID tags + microchip info up to date
✔️ Leash or long line (wildlife is everywhere!)
✔️ Plenty of water + bowl
✔️ Food + extra treats
✔️ A cozy bed or blanket
✔️ Flea & tick prevention (we’re already seeing ticks!)
✔️ Basic first aid + any meds

And most importantly—know your pet.
Start small if needed and make it fun for them, too.

Ticks are already out… and we’re seeing a lot of them this year 🕷️

With the warmer weather (and honestly barely any real winter), they’re showing up early—and sticking around. Even pets that don’t hike much are at risk. Backyards, neighborhood walks, foothills… they’re everywhere right now.

Flea & tick prevention isn’t just a “summer thing” anymore—it’s a now thing.

What we’re recommending:
• Keep pets on consistent flea & tick prevention
• Check them after being outside (ears, neck, between toes)
• Don’t wait until you see one—by then, they’ve already been exposed

This HANDSOME man 🐾

We saw him for a senior assessment to talk through mobility and pain management—and he made himself right at home. I stepped up to the counter to make a lick mat… he followed… and casually helped himself because, yep, he could absolutely reach it 😄

Big dog perks. Kept me on my toes.

He’s as sweet as they come, and this is exactly why seniors are our favorite. There’s so much we can do to help them stay comfortable and keep doing the things they love.

Why a senior assessment is worth it:
• Catch subtle changes early (mobility, weight, behavior)

Meet Cedar 🐾

This handsome guy has the best setup—and the kind of welcome you don’t forget. We pulled up and he came sprinting down the long driveway to meet us, curly hair flying, tail wagging, full happy tongue out. Straight to the car like, “you’re here, let’s go.”

I love when patients are excited to see us—and the feeling is always mutual.

Ceder got a clean bill of health at his wellness visit… and yes, plenty of treats were exchanged. We both understood the assignment 😄

New family member alert 🐾

We love when clients add to the crew—but the real win? When the new guy is this pumped to see the vet. No hesitation, no side-eye… just straight to “yes hi hello I would like more belly rubs please.”

This is what we see all the time with home visits—pets acting like themselves. No car rides, no waiting rooms… just happy wiggles, curiosity, and full-send into affection.

We’ll take this kind of “exam assistance” any day 😄

April 30 = National Tabby Day 🐾

Not a breed—just the best dressed cats around.

Tabbies come in all kinds of looks (striped, swirled, spotted), but they all share that signature “M” on their forehead—and usually a personality to match.

A few fun tabby facts:
• “Tabby” is a coat pattern, not a breed—you’ll find it across tons of different cats
• That little “M” marking has a lot of folklore behind it (but no one really agrees why it’s there)
• Classic patterns: mackerel (tiger stripes), classic (swirls), spotted, and ticked
• Known for being social, curious, and just a little bit mischievous
• Masters of both chaos and cuddles

We see a lot of tabbies who act like they own the place… and honestly, they’re usually right.

When we know time with our pets may be limited…
it changes how we show up for them.

Take the trip.
Don’t skip the morning walk.
Let them linger a little longer in their favorite spot.

Give the extra treats.
Sit with them on the floor.
Spend a little more time doing the things they love.

It doesn’t have to be big or elaborate.

Sometimes it’s just:

The tail wags, the happy prances… Winnie absolutely made our day. She is a perfect girl and did amazing for her spring check-up!

It’s officially hiking-with-your-dog season in Colorado 🏔️🐾

Sun’s out, trails are calling, and your dog is absolutely ready to lead the way like they planned the whole trip.

Also… let’s be honest 😅
a lot of the pets we’ve been seeing packed on a few “winter pounds”… so it’s a great time to start getting everyone moving again.

Before you head out, a few things to keep in mind:

🐾 Tick + flea prevention is a must
We’re already seeing a heavy tick season this year (thanks, warm winter). Even a quick hike can mean exposure—prevention matters.

📍 GPS collar = peace of mind
If your dog is the “just gonna check this out real quick” type… a Fi GPS collar is a game changer.

💧 Hydration
Colorado is dry, and pups don’t always know when to stop. Bring more water than you think you need.

🐕 Ease back into activity
Whether it’s shedding winter weight or just getting back into the groove—start slow and build up, especially for seniors.

🐍 Rattlesnake awareness
They’re out this time of year, especially in the foothills. Stick to trails, avoid tall brush/rock piles, and keep a close eye on curious noses.

🌲 Terrain + wildlife
Uneven ground, sticks, and all the “what is THAT??” moments can lead to injuries—just something to keep in mind.

The goal?
Safe, happy adventures you can keep doing all season long.
