One of our favorite things about in-home veterinary care is meeting pets exactly where they’re most comfortable. For Millie, that meant Dr. Jones did her exam right on the floor — no exam table needed!

At Altitude Animal Aid, we’re happy to sit on the floor, hand out treats, and let your pet set the pace. 🏡🐶 Because veterinary care doesn’t have to feel scary or stressful.

🐾 Meet Buttercup! 💕

She is about as sweet as sweet can be!

Buttercup didn’t seem to mind her second visit with Dr. Jones one bit. In fact, she insisted on staying close and made it pretty clear that belly rubs were expected as part of the appointment. 😂

Friend or veterinarian… hard to tell! We think Buttercup was perfectly happy with both. 🥰

This is one of our favorite things about providing veterinary care at home. Without the stressful car ride, busy waiting room, and unfamiliar environment, we get the chance to meet pets where they’re most comfortable — sometimes that means doing an exam on the floor, and sometimes it means sneaking in a few extra belly rubs along the way!

Thank you, Buttercup, for making Dr. Jones’ job especially easy — and adorable — today!

🐱💚 Those eyes though!

This handsome guy gave us the perfect example of why we love providing veterinary care at home.

Instead of a car ride, a busy waiting room, unfamiliar smells, and other animals, he got to stay right where he was most comfortable — home. 🏡

We sat together on the floor, took our time getting to know him and his family, and before long, he decided the best place to be was stretched out right between all of us. 🥹

That’s what we want veterinary care to feel like whenever possible: calm, comfortable, personal, and centered around your pet.

🐾 Happy National Dog Day! 🐾

Did you know that here at Altitude Animal Aid, we have SIX dogs of our own?! 😂❤️

Meet the crew: Potlicker, Desza, Olive, Phaelah, Amelia, and Murphy (Murphy not pictured — apparently she missed the family photo memo!) 🐶

One of our absolute FAVORITE things to do with our pack is visit Sniffspots! If you haven’t heard of it, Sniffspot lets you rent private, fenced (or not fenced) spaces where your dogs can safely run, sniff, explore, and just be dogs.

We have a favorite spot not too far from us with FOUR FULLY FENCED ACRES and honestly, it’s great for everyone! We can walk the property and get some exercise, the pups can play fetch, hunt for chipmunks 🐿️, run some agility, and explore to their hearts’ content. And during the summer, there are tons of really cool hummingbirds flying around! 🌲🌸

It’s the perfect little adventure for the whole crew — humans included!

🐱 August 22: National Take Your Cat to the Vet Day

For a lot of cats, the hardest part of going to the vet happens before the appointment even starts.

The carrier. The car ride. The barking dogs. The unfamiliar smells and sounds. By the time they see the veterinarian, they may already be stressed.

That’s why we take a thoughtful approach to caring for cats at home. 💛

Before we ever touch your cat, we talk. We discuss your concerns, what needs to be done that day, and make an overall game plan for the visit. Of course, cats are cats, so we’re always ready to adjust the plan based on what they tell us!

Then, when we’re ready, we focus on getting the exam and any needed care done while minimizing unnecessary handling and stress. We don’t want to repeatedly pick them up, restrain them, let them go, and start all over again if we can avoid it.

And because we come to you, your kitty gets to skip the car ride, waiting room, and unfamiliar hospital altogether.

Cats deserve great veterinary care, too—and sometimes bringing the vet to them makes all the difference. 🐾

The scratching stopped! So we’re done… right? 🐾

Not always!

One of the challenges with itchy pets is that once they start feeling better, it’s easy to assume the problem is completely resolved.

But managing chronic or recurring itch can be a long-term process, especially for pets with allergies. The goal isn’t just to get through today’s itchy flare—we want to reduce future flares and keep them comfortable over time.

That might mean ongoing allergy management, consistent flea prevention, treating secondary skin or ear infections when they pop up, adjusting medications, or checking in periodically to see how the plan is working.

Every itchy pet is different, so their plan should be, too.

We love helping our itchy patients get back to feeling like themselves. And clearly Koda doesn’t mind his vet visits too much… Dr. Jones’ lap seems like a pretty good place to be.

Comfort today is important. Keeping them comfortable tomorrow is the bigger goal.

“I thought he was just getting old…”

It’s one of the most common things we hear from families with senior dogs.

“He sleeps more.”
“She doesn’t want to go for walks anymore.”
“He seems confused sometimes.”
“She doesn’t hear me as well.”
“I figured it was just part of aging.”

Sometimes it is. But many times, it’s actually a medical condition that can be treated or managed.

As dogs get older, they’re more likely to develop conditions like:
🐾 Arthritis
🦷 Dental disease
⚖️ Weight changes
🧠 Canine cognitive dysfunction (doggy dementia)
❤️ Heart disease
🩺 Kidney disease
🩸 Diabetes
🦴 Thyroid disease
🎗️ Cancer
👀 Vision and hearing loss

The good news? Many of these conditions develop slowly, and the earlier we recognize them, the more we can do to help. Regular exams, bloodwork, and paying attention to subtle changes at home can make a huge difference in your dog’s comfort and quality of life.

If your senior dog is slowing down, struggling with stairs, drinking more water, losing weight, gaining weight, having accidents in the house, or just “doesn’t seem like themselves,” don’t assume it’s simply old age.

One of our favorite things about mobile veterinary care is getting to see pets where they’re most comfortable — at home.

No stressful car ride.
