Animal Rescue Konnection (ARK)

Animal Rescue Konnection (ARK) Helping at-risk dogs find loving homes since 2012. ARK was formed to fill a gap between at-risk dogs and the organizations or individuals that can help them.

Animal Rescue Konnection (ARK) is a unique, all-volunteer nonprofit organization that specializes in helping dogs that are hard-to-place, marginalized, and mislabeled as ‘unadoptable’ Since its inception in 2012, ARK has helped more than 1,000 dogs find loving homes. Through its unique capabilities and experiences, ARK embraces the challenge of finding homes for dogs that have had moments of poor

behavior which historically ended in euthanasia. To prevent this needless loss of life, ARK promotes the use of progressive and proven alternatives for solving and/or managing behavioral issues. We also support the growing number of open-minded shelters, rescues, and animal control officers who have incorporated best practices into their policies and procedures. Over the past several years, they have realized the same tremendous success that ARK has experienced – behaviorally challenged dogs transform into integral parts of the family after being placed in the right home and given time to adjust to a new life. Whether behavior manifests in a shelter or home environment, other options must be explored. In addition, ARK works to raise awareness about the population of dogs they serve because more work is needed. While many organizations have incorporated a more just and humane approach for managing dogs with behavioral issues, others are still making hasty decisions about euthanasia before trying all availalbe options. Further, dangerous advice is still being circulated by so-called professionals in the field. Thankfully, progressive practices continue to gain traction. We are grateful to the many dogs who are living proof that a dog’s fate must not be based on behavior alone. Though previously labeled unfit for adoption and given no options to succeed, their lives inspire ARK to Just Save Them®.

Second Chance Parker is a lively young boy who's looking for a person who will always have his back. This one-year old has a Lab personality inside a Great Dane-sized body. Part goofball, he’d love to tag team with a human who also has a good sense of humor.

For much of his life, Parker did very well living with a young child. He enjoyed a fenced-in yard, but had limited exposure to other dogs. After the family moved to an apartment, his size and lack of socialization with dogs were not a match for his new environment. He is now living at the Cranston, RI Animal Shelter where staff manage him carefully around other dogs and make sure his environment is controlled. They’ve seen Parker less aroused around certain dogs and under certain circumstances.

By getting to know Parker, they want his forever home to include: An experienced large-dog owner physically capable of managing an XL dog; a single-family house rather than a setting that has lots of dog traffic; a consistent routine with exercise and playtime; a partner to join him in professional dog training and then reinforce all the good manners he learns; and an adopter who is ‘in it to win it’ meaning time, patience, and dedication, which results in membership to the top dog adopter club.

Have what it takes to give Parker a second chance? Contact the shelter by email [email protected] or call (401) 464-8700. PLEASE tell them Animal Rescue Konnection (ARK) sent you!

Hi! I’m Sonny! I have a sunny personality to go along with my playful spirit! I’m about 1- to 2- years old and somewhere between medium and large size. As an orphan, I’m currently a resident of Milford Animal Control in MA. I appreciate the chow and roof over my head, but I am very lonesome. In anticipation of your questions, please review my resume for the position of Companion Dog:

Education
Zilch! But I just started weekly classes! I also have friends to subsidize my training when I find the right adopter. I am highly treat-motivated and ready for a Ph.D (Polite Honorable Dog).

Skill Set:
Very friendly and excited to interact with people. Team player under smart and thoughtful supervisors. Willing to go the extra mile for pets, scratchies, and affection. Punctual for important meetings such as lunch breaks. Will keep staff in shape by walking them daily.

Life Experience:
I spent lots of time in a crate and was severely neglected. I relish food with gusto because I never knew when the next meal would come. I was previously skin and bones, but I’m gaining weight and growing muscles. I don’t know my exact age because nobody ever told me my birthday, and I never had a cake (just sayin’).

Hopes and Dreams:
I just love being with people but it’s hard to contain my thrill when I do get to be outdoors. I’d love any kind of adventure and exercise. I would love to play with other dogs, but their eyes bug out when they see my hyper energy! Once I know how the heck I’m supposed to act, I know I’ll have friends or possibly a dog sibling.

I wish for a patient family and a person to join me in professional dog school with a kind trainer. I’d love to learn all the things great dogs should know. l’d like a slow feeder bowl and other fun food games. I am not aggressive at all, but since I’m a little wild right now, I should not live with young children. No cats. I doubt they’d appreciate my joie de vivre!

Tengu was rescued by our pals at Pawfect Life Rescue in Uxbridge, MA. They soon saw how he turns into a funny lovebug once he knows a person. Now, he is looking for a forever family that will supply him with treats and toys while showing him the world isn’t as scary as he thinks!

Tengu is doing great with the other dogs in his foster home. He seems to adjust to his surroundings by mimicking them. If they’re ok with something, he’s much more willing to accept it. For this reason, a compatible canine pal must be part of his adoption. He also does great with a 6-year-old child in the home, but gets nervous when little friends visit. He will have a much better chance at success in a home without children, or a home that has dog-savvy older kids who will imagine themselves in his ‘shoes.’

Tengu’s cheering squad knows he’ll thrive on structure, a routine, a fellow dog, and loving kindness. This lifestyle will help him build confidence in himself. We’d love someone with experience to continue training and working with him to reduce his triggers, preferably with a professional. (Training support may be available for an adopter.) He really is a sweetheart once he knows you’re A-OK! Learn more: https://www.pawfectliferescue.org/adoptable-dogs Please tell them Animal Rescue Konnection sent you!

Hugo the Magnificent is a very handsome 6-7-year old Lab/Great Dane mix at the Cranston, RI animal shelter. All dogs deserve a good home, but we feel Hugo takes the cake for deserving a rescue hero. He has a history of abuse and was previously deprived of toys over concerns of resource guarding. He now has access to toys and enrichment, and staff simply use appropriate management techniques, such as trading for items rather than taking them away. Duh!

Be part of Team Hugo! He’s done so well that he’s become Mr. Popularity and has a strong group of supporters cheering him on! Please consider meeting this lovely boy who was long misunderstood. He’s a giant gem.

Because of this history, Hugo would do best with a knowledgeable adopter who understands resource guarding and is willing to manage it appropriately. A loving, quiet adult home is best. No children or other animals. Contact [email protected] and tell them ARK sent you! https://www.facebook.com/CranstonAnimalShelterRI/

Zuko is a lovely 5-yr old male German Shepherd who checks all the boxes, but he's freaking out with fear and sadness when alone in his kennel so he is need of an adopter. The wonderful staff at Southwick Animal Control try to keep him with them as much as possible, but there's no place like a forever home. He loves, people, kids, cats, dogs. Serious large dog owners please call 413-569-5348 Ext. 649 asap. If no answer, leave message and email [email protected]

Not many dogs check all the boxes, but Wemby says bring it on! Adults, kids, dogs, and cats! He loves humans so much in fact that he feels the sky falling down when they leave the house. He is an active and sociable 2- to 3- year old male Border Collie mix with a winning smile. He grew up with an unhoused companion, but after his owner died he was left on the streets. Currently in a foster home in Texas, our good friends at A Place for Ace in MA will bring him to our area when his forever home is found.

His ideal family will have the time and dog experience to help him gain confidence, which he sorely lacks. A recipe for success includes challenges for his mind and body as well as another confident dog sibling. Please note - he will need even more love and guidance after his long trip and mandatory 10-day quarantine, so we want him to have an adult family member who is home most of the time.

Because he’s a big boy of 70 pounds, children should be at least 8-years old. He's super friendly but will jump up with excitement. Wemby is healthy, neutered, and potty-trained. He loves all beings and is good with adults, kids, dogs, and cats.

Serious and committed inquiries can speak to the foster, meet him via Facetime, and request videos. Breeds are based on appearance and not guaranteed. Please apply to get the party started! He really is a love who just needs confidence and security! Go to https://aplaceforace.org/adoption-application and you may also ask specific questions at [email protected] PLEASE tell them you heard about Wemby from ARK!

Unfortunately, Zappa’s owner is very sick, and he will need a new home. He wrote this letter to potential adopters. Please read and share with people in the market for a sweet, gentle, middle-aged mutt.

Hi, my name is Zappa and I’m looking for a special someone to accompany me on this thing called life. I’m 6-years-old and weigh 52 pounds. As a border collie / cattle dog combo, I’m blessed with a high IQ that makes learning tricks and commands easy and fun! Though part of me loves being lazy and getting belly rubs, I was also built for adventure, so welcome outings, playing, scattered-treat games, recall games, fetching sticks, and enrichment toys.

If you’d like a loyal best friend, I’d love to fill that role. I am good with calm dogs or older dogs, but steer clear of hyper ones, cats, and young children. I am happiest in a small family unit where life is usually quiet and routine without a lot of comings and goings. Since I like to take my time getting to know people, you’d be doing me a solid if you tell strangers to keep their paws off me until I’m ready to be friends.

While there is no adoption fee, please give a donation of $50 or more to Animal Rescue Konnection. For more information about me, call or text Anna and Jon (617) 843-5205 or email jonathansbudd@gmail. Please tell them Animal Rescue Konnection (ARK) sent you!
