We are the Underdogs of C.A.R.E.

We are overlooked because of breed, age, medical condition, or social awkwardness.

But guess what? Today is National Make a Dog’s Day, so it’s OUR day: a day to recognize and celebrate dogs everywhere, and most importantly, those of us in shelters, waiting to be understood and taken home.

Thank you, Subaru of America, Inc., for helping spotlight our favorite pets in the shelter ❤
Adopt during the month of October, and Phil Long Subaru has your adoption costs covered!

Senior shelter dog Roxy has been adopted and is making national headlines!

Roxy (now Pumpkin, or Punky to the kids) found a fantastic family during the ASPCA Rescue Effect Campaign and is now the perfect spokesdog to show the joy of welcoming a shelter pet into your family and the impact adoption has on other pets patiently waiting for help.

And thank you to Punky's new family for adopting and sharing her family photos ❤

ADOPTED!

H***h is the perfect H***h is the perfect !

Don't miss out on our tubby little cattle dog; he'll make a trusty companion who will keep you on the move and smiling. His easygoing attitude made him a fast favorite with the staff and shelter dogs too 😁

Adoption costs have been covered by Phil Long Subaru through the end of the month, so there's no better time to welcome our 1-year-old shelter dog home!

Who can resist our little one-eyed Chug named Daisy?

Daisy came to C.A.R.E. over a month ago with her friends Finn and Cove as part of a 50-dog hoarding case.

We've been happy to watch Daisy settle in a bit, spending time snoozing in our office, hanging with other small dogs, and being brave enough to come grab all the treats she can get.

Now Daisy needs YOUR help.

She needs a place to continue her journey, in a home with peaceful people and pets, safety and consistency, and all the love and patience our little 14 lb pup deserves ❤

Planning ahead is one of the ways we can care for the pets and people we love. 🫶

October 19-25 is National Estate Planning Awareness Week, a reminder that having a plan in place can bring peace of mind and help ensure your wishes are known.

Through our partnership with FreeWill, C.A.R.E. is excited to offer our community a free online resource to create a will, make plans for loved ones and pets, and consider the causes closest to your heart.

For those who wish to make a lasting impact, including C.A.R.E. in a will or estate plan is one way to help ensure compassionate care continues for shelter pets for generations to come. Supporters who notify us of a planned gift become part of our Legacy Angels, a special group helping build a brighter future for pets in our community. 😇

Please join us in celebrating C.A.R.E.'s own RVT (Registered Vet Tech), Bridgitte Dertinger! 🎉❤🐾

Bridgitte brings advanced knowledge, technical expertise, steady leadership, and deep compassion to the shelter pets, colleagues, and community she serves. Not to mention her specialty in dental procedures, which helps C.A.R.E. cover thousands of dollars worth of treatment for adopters (without any additional fees).

We have been fortunate to have Bridgitte on our team for the past four years, with her experience in veterinary medicine surpassing 26 years in total. She has directly contributed to the health and happiness of countless pets, with many more to come! Bridgitte is currently involved in expanding both owned pet and TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) services for Garfield County residents.

Thank you, Bridgitte, for all of your hard work and dedication! We don't know what we'd do without you. 🥹

A big night for shelter pets, made possible by YOU! 💛

We're still feeling the love from Dressed to the K9s, where our incredible community came together to raise more than $120,000 for C.A.R.E.'s Thumper Fund!

From Fashion & Fur and our 2026 Animaltarians of the Year celebration to an unforgettable evening of generosity, we're so grateful to everyone who helpd make the night possible.

Thank you to our guests, sponsors, volunteers, vendors, and everyone who showed up for shelter pets. We couldn't do it without you!

✨ Take a look back at the evening, see the impact, and help us celebrate: https://www.coloradoanimalrescue.org/2026/10/dressed-to-the-k9s-2026/

We'll see you for another Dressed to the K9s on Saturday, September 11, 2027!
