Blue green algae seems to be more prominent in the Dakotas this summer. Blue green algae grows in stagnant water during hot weather, and is more common in water with a lot of run off. Algae blooms can look like paint on the water,scum, or like grass clippings. These blooms can be poisonous to animals especially cows drinking from these bodies of water. If you question a water source it is prudent to submit a water sample for microscopic evaluation. Please read the following bulletin from NDSU for further information.
