Hi! Just like a blink of an eye, the holiday season arrived😳 and honestly, we've been lucky to have constant flow of dogs coming in, it feels like a smooth sailing going in. Some days get crazy for sure, but we always feel confident to finish a day, because we know who the dogs are, in any given day, even at their worst mood / behavior. It really is a privilege being able to know each character coming into the shop, and for some, we even know things they don't normally do / act at their homes🤫 Naturally, there are ones that stand out to us no matter what...
This is Ozzie, the literal BULLdog. He came in 3years ago, when he was 3, because Ozzie needed every week bath to avoid flaring allergies by getting dirty. The thing was, that at the initial inquiry, the owner asked if I could handle 'pretty crazy, but not aggressive,' and I did... Well, that question didn't disappoint😂 Ozzie was totally fine with people but other dogs, you can't place him in his own cage because he starts to chew not just blankets but whatever he thought he could taste something, like even wooden railing on door or divider... He was absolutely obsessed with eating, so naturally, you can imagine his digestion cycle was disrupted more often than not... Ozzie was so unpredictable that, 1st year he came in, just before the Thanksgiving weekend, he broke his middle finger on his right front leg because he was doing something around a metal shelf, while he was unsupervised by his owner😂😂😂 And, I really mean that it was the MIDDLE finger out of 5... Who does that??!!
Ozzie had some laceration while doing whatever he had done, so he came in all bandaged, with some medication had put on, and I was told 'not to wet the area' because of the medication. I tweaked my brain as much as I could, with things around the shop, covering with aluminum foil and sandwich bag sealed up with rubber band. But then, it's not perfect, so when water seeped in, he was literally in my face barking his guts out to tell me 'it's all your fault!!' and I was yelling out loud back to him "I'M TRYING TO HELP YOU, YOU KNOW!!??" It's not too difficult to picture how it was, and Lynn just couldn't fathom what he was, that she just despised him back then😅 Then came the cure...
2 years ago, the owners got worried, after he started going after their kids, Ozzie started to take a doggy Prozac. And, kid you not, it is actually the thing for some dogs, to be in normal state of mind. Ozzie still had some edge, but he turned into a different dog, calm demeanor, wanting to ask for 'being touched.' Then, the hardship came in this year, when he was diagnosed with lymphoma. He finished his rounds of chemo, ups and downs, but he absolutely took it in, to be back, for short time...There was another 'unknown' growth, that even doctors couldn't specify what it was after CT scan, started to show up. It caused him to breathe limitedly, and Ozzie had to cross the rainbow bridge this past Tuesday🌈
After having Ozzie coming in, technically every week, for the last 3years, Lynn and I have been slow to truly cope with not having him at his 'regular spot.' At the same time, it was just another reminder, that we have been given a chance to get to know each and one individual dogs at a time, to be able to do what we loved to do. With that, we'd like to leave this as something we have been thankful about🙌🏼 Happy Thanksgiving to all🫶🏻
