COME MONDAY ... they'll start putting up the structure, but the concrete pour had to come first, so at 5:00 am they started! The cement trucks are what you usually see on the road, but then they dump it into this pumper truck and it's amazing to see what they do...

THE END OF AN ERA ... It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Chief. Many knew him as the "Kissing Horse". Over the years, Chief raised hundreds of dollars at every event doing selfies of him giving kisses on the cheeks of the guests. Chief had a rough start with Southern Sun Farm and put 3 people in the hospital including 2 trainers. Headed to the rodeo as a bucking horse or the "glue factory" was his future, but Ann, seeing that the horse was dangerous and not adoptable, but extremely intelligent, wouldn't give up on the bay gelding and took him on as a special project. Chief would eventually turn into the "p***y cat" we all knew
and Ann's primary riding horse. He had excellent ground manners, was bomb-proof and would load himself on a trailer. Not being a naturally patient person, Ann credits Chief with teaching her much more than she taught him. We had him 26 years. This week we knew it was time to call the vet to come out. With satin ribbons tied in his mane and tail, and Ann by his side, Chief quietly slipped away and was buried here on the farm. Chief was a remarkable 34 years old!

AND SO IT BEGINS .... As the weather is starting to break, the Spring/Summer chores on the property are beginning ... we had the arena fencing R&R'd this week and to do so, Milton and Otis had to be relocated to the Streamside Pasture. Actually, we opened the arena gates and they headed down there on their own ... all we had to do was close the gates once they were in!

THE BARN SITE - The Barn progress is slow, but moving forward. These are pictures of the site taken by Nick Lather when he was here last, visiting with his family. Pam Lather, who is the author of the Doc books, and her husband Ken, are some of the best volunteers you could ask for! Not only do they come a couple of times a week and do "barn chores", but Ken has built and repaired many things around the farm and, in his "spare" time, is on the Board of Habit For Humanity! Nick and his wife Jackie, Jackie Nick Lather and their children, Nevin, Corley and Everly are all huge supporters of the Sanctuary and we are grateful for all the Lathers!!
