Interesting publication from this summer considering the role of the gut brain axis in aspects of dog health and behaviour

The authors (reference below) conclude

“The burgeoning field of GBA research heralds a transformative era in veterinary medicine, particularly for managing neurological and behavioural disorders in companion animals.”

They describe how research supports how anxiety reduction, improved cognitive function and even seizure management appear to be influenced by the GBA highlighting the importance of further investigating how to achieve this practically.

Whilst we still do not have all the answers, we are heading in a positive direction towards additional treatments, modifications and support via addressing the gastrointestinal microbiota for a variety of disorders.

Why not join my 6 online module “In Sickness and In Health” course which starts again in October where we dig deep into the science of the microbiota-gut-brain axis and consider its relevance in health and behaviour alongside an up to date review of various medical conditions and their influence on dog wellbeing too.
