So a client of mine sent me this video, and made me realize a thing or two which honestly I’ve always known. Usually I’ve been “ an understandable person “ they’re “animals” at the end of the day. But really they are Itleast a 1200 pound animal that can easily make my life difficult or worse. So now on I will be charging a fee on horses that will not stand for me, and I mean yanking their legs, pulling back, rearing up or which happens more times then I like to count getting their horses from a muddy pasture. If I have to work your horses while you the client stands there and watches im charging you extra. I’m not your trainer and if you will not take initiative to hold your horse accountable then I will charge you for it.

🦒 Since it’s official now… Justin and I have been asked to take over hoofstock hoof care at a local zoo!!!

Right before my back surgery last year I was approached with this bucket list opportunity and I had to sadly turn it down. I was retiring and we needed to focus on getting my clients taken care of after surgery. A couple weeks ago we were approached again because this zoo still hadn’t found a hoof care professional and has some hoofstock in need. I expressed that I personally won’t be able to do much physically, but between mine and Justin’s knowledge, we could help! After several emails discussing our safety as well as the animals’, we set up a meet-and-greet to see if it was a good fit.

Today we got a behind-the-scenes VIP tour through the zoo and the through the brand new veterinary clinic. We got to meet the vet, vet tech, and tons of amazing staff. We also got to see some hooves close up! Also, giraffes are VERY tall when you’re RIGHT next to them. 😳🤣 They recently installed a “giraffe tamer” which is pretty much a giraffe chute/stocks. They have 2 giraffes and a kudu that need attention, so the zoo staff has been working with each animal in the stocks to get them ready for trims. They’re all target cued, but need to get used to the new chute area.

While the zoo is getting ready for us, we’ll be furthering our education on hoofstock care. We are so excited for this amazing opportunity!

Hey folks! I know it’s been a while since I’ve last posted anything and I’m trying my best to get it least something out for y’all. Many of you know I’ve been using a grinder for work for a few months now, and when the horse allows me to use my grinder it looks something like this!

A real healthy reminder about sawdust and BLACK WALNUT!
Last night a client with a boarding barn went to unload sawdust. Thank god they knew what black walnut looked like and immediately recognized it! They called the saw mill to check there suspicions and it was confirmed......black walnut had been processed that day.

Horses can be affected by black walnut if shavings made from the tree are used in bedding. As little as 20% black walnut in shavings or sawdust can cause clinical signs within hours of contact. Effects of exposure primarily affect the lower limb and include stocking up, stiff gait, and reluctance to move. If untreated, toxicosis can progress and cause colic, swelling of the neck and chest, elevated heart and respiratory rate, and even laminitis and founder.

She literally saved 10 horses from this fate and dodged a bullet!!!!!
