HEADS UP: If you’re planning a trip to the coast this week, please stay alert! 🌊

A Beach Hazards Statement is in effect from 9 am Tuesday through 9 am Wednesday along the Pacific Coast. Strong northwest winds will generate very rough conditions including strong rip currents and breaking waves.

What you need to know:

Safety First: Rough seas can suddenly sweep people off beaches, rocks, and jetties. Stay off the rocks!

Cold Water: Upwelling causes water temperatures to lower—expect a shock if you enter the water.

Tidal Swings: Large tidal swings could trap walkers by cutting off exits.

Erosion: Intense waves may make coastal terrain and cliffs unstable.

Respect the power of the Pacific: Stay back from the water’s edge and NEVER turn your back on the ocean.

On Memorial Day, and throughout the year, we remember with gratitude the equine, canine, and avian members of the military, as well as their dedicated handlers and veterinary caregivers.
Their service and sacrifices have contributed enormously to the freedoms we take for granted. 🇺🇸
“Thank you” will never be enough but we can honor them by being prepared and able to help others be ready for times of crisis.

This webinar explores examples from common horse barn facilities that provide fire prevention that works (matched with examples of poorly done fire prevention that might surprise you!) We will discuss why the onus is on your facilities and management to prevent fires, simple fixes that can improve anyone's prevention status - and how well-rehearsed responses can actually work if something goes wrong. Lastly, we will get into the specifics of reports of big successes (where all or most of the animals were saved) and what went wrong in a few tragic situations within the last year here in the USA.

Let's talk about water! 💧

Safe drinking water is critical for people and animals. It's the single most important thing we need to have plenty of to get us through a local emergency or large scale disaster! While we can all do OK for a few days on limited healthy food rations, we all need sufficient water to keep us healthy.

Here are resources to help you make sure you have what you need to keep yourself, your family, and all your animals well hydrated.
