Foster a Greyhound. You might fall in love.

One thing many people don’t realize about WAG is that we rely entirely on foster homes. We don’t have a kennel or facility — every greyhound that comes through WAG stays with a foster family while they adjust to life in a home and wait for their forever home.

That also means something important:

When we have more foster homes available, we’re able to welcome more greyhounds to WAG.

Fostering gives each hound a place to land, learn about home life, and show adopters just how great they are. WAG provides guidance, supplies, and support along the way.

In the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing stories from our foster homes and answering questions about fostering. With any luck, we'll also find more foster homes so that we can welcome more hounds soon!

If you’ve ever wondered what fostering is like, this is a great time to learn more! If you have specific questions about fostering for WAG, share them below, and we'll do our best to answer them in an upcoming post!

We're over the moon to share the scoop! Mr. Muggins has finally found his forever family! A ginormous thank you to Mugs' super-foster parents, Maureen and Matt, for being total rockstars and dragging Mr. Mugs to Home Depot and Greyhound Fun Runs, complete with an 'Adopt me!' bandana, because who doesn't want to adopt this face?

Lucky for us, the Carlino family was at the right place at the right time and fell head over heels. They put in an application faster than you can say 'greyhound' and even crashed the latest WAG Meet and Greet to make sure everyone was comfortable with the adoption. And, ta-da! Here we are!

Mugs has been quite the cuddle master, because let's be real, we knew he would be, and a quick learner to boot. He's conquered the dreaded stairs (up and down!), mastered the slippery hardwood floor, and his walks are getting smoother too! He's getting along swimmingly with his greyhound pals, especially his BFF fellow cow-dog, Priscilla, aka Mrs Muggins 🤣🤣🤣😂

He's found all the comfiest spots and taken full advantage of the snuggles, love, and luxuries. Huge congrats to the Carlino family! We're excited for many more years of Mugsy updates and can't wait to see what this goofball gets up to next!

Muggins may have some clear feelings about the blizzard coming our way, but he wants everyone to know that we'll still be at the Waterford Tractor Supply tomorrow from 11-1 for our Meet and Greet! Mr. Muggins has his paws crossed for a blizzard miracle that he meets his forever family! Could it be you?

Muggins is still waiting for his forever home, and will be needing a new foster home by the end of the month if a family still hasn't fallen for him. Mr. Muggins made the journey from New Zealand to CT in September and turned 5 in November. He is a tall, lanky boy, weighing in at about 70 lbs. He unfortunately tested not cat safe with us, but that's ok because we know there are humans out there who agree with him! He tested safe with small dogs before joining WAG, but we have not reassessed him recently. We think he would also be ok in a home with older children who are used to dogs.

Muggins can be a very sensitive boy, in that he does not love changes to his routine. Even having his bed washed can trigger a stress response for him. After time and evaluation, we decided that the best thing for him would be to put him on a simple medication regimen to manage his stress and anxiety. This has helped Muggins immensely, and now he's just missing his forever family to help establish his permanent routine to help him finish settling fully!

Mr. Muggins would be happiest in a home where his humans are home more often than not, as he *loves* his humans. He's a bit of a velcro dog and will lean on you with all of his 70 lbs almost instantly! He has trouble holding his bladder longer than 6-7 hours, so if he's alone during long work days, he would need some sort of break midday (he also has shown he cannot hold it longer than 6-7 hours overnight). He's currently being fostered with two other greyhounds, but we think with the right family (i.e. someone who works from home exclusively or is otherwise home most of the time), he could probably be an only dog.

If you're interested in learning more about fostering or adopting Muggins, please contact your adoption rep or reach out to WAG!

Another snowy day here in Connecticut, and available hound Muggins is daydreaming about all the snowday snacks and what they might consist of in his future forever home! What snacks would you share with this handsome boy on a snow day if he joined your family?

Important reminder from Missing Dogs Massachusetts! Whenever there is a significant weather event, the first thing you should do is get eyes on your gates and fencelines! Make sure no fences have blown over or gates blown open -- and make sure your dog can't jump over your fence with the rising snow!

2/23/26 We can't share this post enough right now, snow mounds will be towering!! Wind drifts everywhere!
We are issuing a CAUTION again for your fencing . Please be aware of snow piles and drifts, as your dog may leap that fence if given the opportunity.
Our model Cinders demonstrates why she will not be outside today unless she is accompanied by an adult.
Clear your fence lines & keep your 4-leggeds safe!
If you have an electric fence - it may not function in snow of this depth - pls. be aware!

Mr Muggins still hasn’t been snatched up! Have you ever considered fostering? Mr Muggins will need a new foster home in March as our lovely foster family has yearly obligations that make it difficult to foster full time. We are so grateful for the families who open up their homes and hearts for our foster dogs. If you have any questions or want to hear more about fostering, please reach out to us!
