FDA is releasing new info about our ongoing investigation into a potential link between certain pet foods and reported cases of canine dilated cardiomyopathy, (DCM), a type of heart disease, in dogs. https://www.fda.gov/animal-veterinary/news-events/fda-investigation-potential-link-between-certain-diets-and-canine-dilated-cardiomyopathy.

Many pet foods included in reports to FDA appear to contain a high proportion of peas, lentils, and/or potatoes. It’s important to note that the FDA doesn’t yet know how certain diets may be associated with DCM in some dogs. However, the FDA is first and foremost a public health agency, and takes seriously its responsibility to protect human and animal health. Be sure to work with your vet when choosing the right food for your pet’s needs and before making changes to your pet’s diet. Please report suspected cases of DCM to FDA.
