This is what our fluffy huskies were bred to do. And they love the cold.

On this day, after a harrowing 5.5-day relay across the frozen wilderness of Alaska, the lifesaving diphtheria antitoxin serum arrived in Nome.

Facing blizzards, temperatures as low as -50°F, and treacherous terrain, more than 20 mushers and their heroic dog teams raced in a desperate, non-stop relay over nearly 700 miles. They delivered the antitoxin just in time to prevent a full-blown epidemic in the isolated, icebound town.

✨ Legacy of the Serum Run:
While the final team of Gunnar Kaasen and lead dog Balto became famous, the feat was a monumental effort by all. This incredible story of endurance, cooperation, and courage directly inspired the modern Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, which honors the history of sled dogs and the mushers who depend on them.

A true testament to the strength of the human and canine spirit.

Proof they are bred for harsh cold climates

🐶 When the cold turns extreme, the Siberian Husky proves her resilience is no coincidence. When sleeping, he usually curl up forming a circle and hide his muzzle under the tail, a simple yet effective posture that reduces heat loss and protects the most sensitive areas of the body. This way, it preserves its temperature even on icy surfaces.

This ability is backed by an extraordinary body design. Its double layer of fur acts as a natural insulator: the dense underlayer holds heat, while the outer hair repels snow and wind. Their paws are also adapted to ice, with thick pads, hair between their toes and a circulation system that prevents freezing. Adding to it is an efficient metabolism, prepared to withstand long days of intense cold without excessive energy expenditure.

While these adaptations do not eliminate the need for care in home settings, they explain why the husky is one of the breeds best prepared for extreme climates. It's not magic or trick: it's evolution in action, tuned for thousands of years in the icy northern landscapes.

Let’s Talk Expectations....

With the holidays coming, so many rescue dogs are wishing for forever homes.
Can you make that happen? We would love nothing more.

BUT FIRST, let’s have an important talk.

When you bring home a new dog, especially a rescue, there will always be a gap between what you imagined and how things actually go.

Sometimes it’s just small things you adjust to.

Other times, it’s big things that make you stop and wonder, “Is this how it’s going to be forever?”

Take a breath.
Then take a look through your dog’s eyes.

Change is hard on anyone, but even harder on a rescue dog.
And if we’re being honest, harder still on a husky.

Patience is everything.
Trust takes time.
Love takes consistency.

If you’ve adopted a dog, we’d love to hear your expectation vs reality moments. Big or small.
Your story might be exactly what another struggling adopter needs to hear today.
