Why tasty treat shaped if not tasty treat?

The last of the babies at Buena Vista Ranch moved out of the barn and into pasture. Balieys and Farrah get to be in the same space for the first time! Vanilla, who can be a bit of a dragon mom did so good sharing space.

Farrah and Jackie mutually groom until Farrah gets mad! So spicy.

Join me for some quality spooks time! We nap, we snore, we stretch, and more. I literally cannot get enough of this kid. I am the luckiest human alive.

It was my turn for some Houdini loving! Someone might want to be a hairdresser when he grows up.

There’s a big party at the ranch tonight. Formal attire required. Even the horses are getting dressed up. I want to know who you think wore it best. Let me know in the comments!

It’s almost 100 degrees in Gilroy today. One of my favorite ways to make sure my horses are drinking enough water is to add fruit slices straight to their water buckets! Not only does this simple act provide your horse with some sensory stimulus, it also encourages problem solving AND gets your horse to drink more water! I could watch my horses play like this all day. From Izzy who has never seen apples floating in water before, to Boo, our undefeated apple bobbing champion, all of our horses love this “game”. How do you encourage your horse to drink more when it’s this hot outside?

Let’s check in with the older moms and babies at Buena Vista Ranch. Cherish is a love monster who learns how to use my phone, Jaggy‘s not so shaggy, and spooks is his usual perfect self.

Houdini is a shy baby. When we have a shy foal, we don’t force interaction. We try to give them opportunities to explore us on their own without expectation. When Houdini expressed curiosity today at grain o’clock, Jason took a few moments to assume a non-threatening position and let young Houdini explore.
