Town Cats Town Cats works to ensure all cats and kittens have the chance to live a happy, healthy life.

Town Cats is a nonprofit, volunteer-based cat shelter/adoption center and feral cat advocacy 501(c)3 organization, dedicated exclusively to advocating for cat welfare. We strive to nurture, restore to health and find loving homes for as many abandoned, surrendered, orphaned stray and community cats as possible without ever resorting to euthanasia as a method of population control.

Senior Sunday continues! Now we’d like to introduce you to… Tiger! Tiger is a 13-year-old gentleman with a huge heart for humans. He loves people and is always happy to get some attention. He can tolerate living with other cats, as long as they understand one very important rule: Tiger gets the first pets of the day.

Its senior Sunday, and we have a very happy adoption update! Henry, our featured senior from 2 weeks ago, was adopted last week! We are beyond excited for him, and so happy he finally found his forever home after over a year in our care. We want to thank his long-term foster for showing him love and kindness and keeping him happy and healthy while he waited! Congratulations on your new family, Henry!

We’re a little late getting our August adoption update out, but we’re here! 15 cats found their homes in August!

We didn’t quite hit our goal of 30, but we did get to celebrate Magnolia and Henry finally finding their people. After both of them waited so long, seeing them go home made this month feel pretty successful.

Maybe September will be the month we hit 30! Maybe it won’t. Numbers are nice, but they aren’t everything. What matters most is finding the right home for each cat, and we’ll always be happy to celebrate that.

Here’s to the 15 cats who went home in August, and hopefully many more in September!

Slynk taught us not to judge a book by its cover. Slynk was with us when Tony the Tiger first came into our care. They never really got to know each other, but Tony did meow at her, just like he does with all the cats he decides he wants to be friends with.

At first, we thought Tony was meowing at the other cats because he was distressed. It didn't take us long to realize that wasn't the case at all. Tony wasn't upset, he just wants friends! That big, serious-looking “tiger” was actually just trying to introduce himself to everyone around him. Being FIV+ can make finding the right home a little more challenging for Tony, but we are determined to find him the best friend and forever home.

Slynk taught us not to judge a book by its cover, and Tony is a pretty great reminder of that lesson. Sometimes the cat who looks intimidating is really just a big ol' softie looking for a friend. Today we remember Slynk’s huge appetite for any food that wasn’t her own.

People food? Absolutely. (We never let her have any people food, she just wanted it as you can see from the pictures)
Another cat’s food? Obviously.
Treats? Please and thank you.

Basically, if it wasn’t the food she was supposed to eat, Slynk needed to know about it immediately. We could put the exact same food another cat was eating into Slynk’s bowl, and that simply would not do. Because why would she want the food in her bowl when there was perfectly good food belonging to someone else right over there?

Oh, Slynk. The silly things you did. We miss every single one of them.

We’re still celebrating Ginger Cat Appreciation Day over here, and we have a story to share about Mr. Peanutbutter. This past week was a tough one. As many of you know, we had to say goodbye to Slynk. The very next day, we got a call that Mr. Peanutbutter’s adopter could no longer care for him.

While owner surrenders are never easy, we want to remind everyone that when you adopt from Town Cats, our cats always have a place to come home to. We would much rather have an adopter reach out to us than try to make a situation work when it isn’t working, or put the cat in a dangerous situation.

We knew Mr. Peanutbutter could be a challenging cat. At 20 pounds, he is a BIG guy, and he knows how to set his boundaries. That can be intimidating, and even after a very thorough adoption process, we knew there was a possibility he could need to come back into our care, and we were prepared for that.

But there is a silver lining. During his time in his adoptive home, we learned something really important about Mr. Peanutbutter: once he feels comfortable, he is quite the love bug. He followed his person around the house, waited outside the bedroom door for breakfast, and became very affectionate. We got to see a side of him that we hadn’t fully known before, and that information is incredibly valuable as we look for his next home.

We love this big orange guy, and we want to find him the right match. Mr. Peanutbutter needs an experienced adopter who understands cats, respects boundaries, and has the time and energy to give him the structure and attention he needs. He is not looking for someone who is gone all day or frequently away. He needs someone who can make him part of their daily routine.

His first adoption may not have worked out, but it gave us something valuable: we learned more about Mr. Peanutbutter and got to see the loving side of him that comes out once he feels at home. Now we have a better understanding of what he needs, and we can keep moving forward to find the right person for him.
