Foxtail season is here 🌾⚠️

We wanted to share an important reminder after one of our own staff members recently had to rush their dog to the vet when foxtails became lodged deep inside her ear.

Foxtails are extremely dangerous because they are shaped like tiny barbed needles. Once they attach to a pet, they can continue to move deeper into the body and do not break down naturally.

They can burrow into:
🐾 Paws
👂 Ears
👃 Nose
👀 Eyes
🩹 Skin & coat

If left untreated, foxtails can cause:
• Painful infections
• Abscesses
• Swelling and bleeding
• Ruptured ear drums
• Damage to eyes and noses
• Trouble breathing if inhaled
• In severe cases, they can even migrate internally and require surgery

Signs to watch for:
⚠️ Excessive paw licking
⚠️ Sudden limping
⚠️ Head shaking or crying when ears are touched
⚠️ Sneezing repeatedly
⚠️ Swollen or irritated skin
⚠️ Excessive scratching

Please check your pets carefully after walks, hikes, yard time, and outdoor adventures especially during dry grass season. Keeping your pet groomed and brushed can help catch foxtails before they become a dangerous vet emergency.

A simple foxtail can turn serious very quickly. Stay safe out there, friends 💛🐾

Let me introduce myself, my name is Kristina!! I’m the salon manager here at Gilroy Cali Pet Goodz, where I help keep the salon running smoothly, support our team, and make sure every pup leaves feeling fresh, happy, and loved. I’ve been a dog groomer going on 14 years and landed at Cali Pet Goodz during the pandemic, where I’ve set my roots ever since.

I love building trust with dogs and getting to know all their unique personalities. Senior pups especially have my heart. Taking extra care with their frail, arthritic little bodies and helping them feel comfortable, refreshed, and puppy-like again is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.

My passion for dogs doesn’t end at the salon, I have my own mini poodle named Padme, who gets to model all my fun creative and colorful hair dye ideas. I can’t wait to meet your pets and give them all the love they deserve. You can usually find me in my corner cuddling with your pets. 🐾
