⚠️ WE HAVE HAD TWO POSITIVE CASES OF WEST NILE THIS MONTH! ⚠️

This is an important reminder that keeping your horses’ vaccinations up to date is one of the best steps you can take to help protect their health and well-being. Please don’t wait until it’s too late to think about prevention!

💉 WHY ARE THESE VACCINATIONS SO IMPORTANT?

🦟 EV / VEST (VEWT) – Eastern, Western & Venezuelan Equine Encephalomyelitis + Tetanus These mosquito-borne viral diseases can cause severe inflammation of the brain and spinal cord, commonly known as sleeping sickness. They can lead to serious neurological symptoms and even death. Tetanus is a separate, life-threatening disease caused by bacteria that can enter through wounds.

🦟 WN – West Nile Virus West Nile Virus is transmitted by mosquitoes and can cause neurological problems, muscle tremors, weakness, incoordination, difficulty standing, and potentially death. Vaccination is a key part of prevention.

🐴 RF – Respiratory Flu / Rhino Equine influenza and equine herpesvirus (rhinopneumonitis) are highly contagious respiratory diseases. They can cause fever, coughing, nasal discharge, and reduced performance. Rhino can also cause more serious complications, including neurological disease and reproductive losses.

❤️ PLEASE TAKE THESE PRECAUTIONS: ✅ Check your horse’s vaccination records. ✅ Contact your veterinarian to make sure your horses are current on their vaccines and boosters. ✅ Reduce mosquito exposure by eliminating standing water and using appropriate fly and mosquito control. ✅ Monitor your horses for fever, coughing, nasal discharge, weakness, stumbling, or other unusual symptoms. ✅ Contact your veterinarian promptly if you notice signs of illness.

Vaccination cannot prevent every infection, but it can significantly reduce the risk of serious disease and help protect your horses. Don’t assume your horse is protected without checking its vaccination history.

🐾 National Pets for Veterans Day 🐾

Today we honor not only our veterans, but also the animals who stand beside them through some of life’s hardest moments. ❤️

There is something so special about the bond between a person and their pet. Animals do not judge, they do not ask questions, and they do not need an explanation. They are simply there. Sometimes that quiet companionship, a head in your lap, a paw beside you, or a wagging tail at the end of a hard day can mean more than words ever could.

For many veterans, pets and service animals provide comfort, routine, companionship, and a sense of peace that can be incredibly important.

To every veteran, thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and everything you have given.

And to the animals who are there through the good days, the difficult days, and all the days in between — thank you for loving your person exactly as they are. 🐶🐱❤️

Sometimes the best kind of support comes with four paws and a whole lot of unconditional love. 🇺🇸🐾

🐾 National Veterinary Technician Week | October 18–24 🐾

This week, we’re celebrating the incredible veterinary technicians who somehow manage to be nurses, phlebotomists, anesthetists, dental assistants, lab technicians, radiology techs, pharmacy assistants, patient advocates, professional animal snugglers… and occasionally expert p**p detectives. 😂💩

Vet techs are often the hands holding a nervous patient, the calm voice reassuring a worried owner, and the person behind the scenes making sure everything runs as smoothly as possible—even when the day is anything but smooth.

They comfort scared pets, monitor anesthesia, place catheters, draw blood from patients who definitely did not consent to the meeting, clean up messes nobody wants to talk about, and somehow still find time to love every animal that walks through the door. ❤️

Veterinary medicine can be exhausting, emotional, messy, and incredibly rewarding. Our technicians pour so much compassion, patience, knowledge, and heart into the care of our patients every single day.

So during National Veterinary Technician Week, October 18–24, we want to give a huge THANK YOU to the amazing techs who help keep our patients healthy, our doctors sane, and our clinic moving.

We truly couldn’t do it without you. 🐶🐱❤️

And yes… we promise we appreciate you even when we say, “Can you just help me with one quick thing?” five minutes before closing. 😂

🎾🐾 Happy National Fetch Day! 🐾🎾

Today is all about one of our dogs’ favorite games — FETCH!

For some pups, it’s simple: throw the ball, bring it back, repeat. For others, it’s more like… throw the ball, chase the ball, grab the ball, and then absolutely refuse to give it back. 😂

Fetch is more than just fun, though. It’s a great way to keep dogs active, burn off some extra energy, and spend quality time together. ❤️

So grab their favorite ball, frisbee, or toy and head outside for a few rounds today!

And we want to know… is your dog actually good at fetch, or do they prefer the game of “you threw it, you go get it”? 😂🐶

🐾🐱 National Feral Cat Day 🐱🐾

Today we’re shining a little extra light on the cats who may not have a cozy couch to call home, but still deserve compassion, care, and respect. ❤️

Feral and community cats can be a familiar sight in many neighborhoods, and helping them responsibly can make a big difference. Programs like Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) help reduce unwanted litters while allowing healthy community cats to return to the areas they already know.

These cats may not always want cuddles or belly rubs — and honestly, some of them would strongly prefer that we keep our hands to ourselves. 😂 — but they still deserve humane care.

If you have community cats in your area, consider supporting local rescue groups, spay/neuter programs, shelters, or caregivers who work hard to keep them safe and healthy.

Every cat matters, even the ones watching us suspiciously from under the porch. 🐱👀❤️

🐾⚖️ National Pet Obesity Awareness Day ⚖️🐾

We all love showing our pets how much they mean to us — and sometimes that love comes in the form of one extra treat… then another… and maybe just one more because they gave us that look. 😂❤️

But maintaining a healthy weight is an important part of keeping our pets feeling their best.

Extra weight can put added stress on joints, make it harder to stay active, and may contribute to other health concerns over time. The good news is that even small changes can make a big difference! 🐶🐱

Things like measuring meals, choosing healthy treats, adding more playtime or walks, and keeping up with regular veterinary visits can all help support a healthier lifestyle.

And remember — every pet is different. A healthy weight isn’t about a number on the scale alone. Your veterinary team can help determine the right body condition and nutrition plan for your pet.

So today, give them plenty of love, a little extra playtime, and maybe resist those puppy-dog eyes asking for a third snack. 😉🐾

💚🐾 World Mental Health Day 🐾💚

Veterinary medicine is built on compassion, but sometimes the people giving the most care are the ones quietly carrying the heaviest load.

Behind every appointment, emergency, difficult diagnosis, goodbye, and long day is a team of people who care deeply. We celebrate the happy moments, but we also carry the hard ones home with us.

Today is a reminder that mental health matters in veterinary medicine too.

It is okay to have hard days. It is okay to ask for help. It is okay to take care of yourself with the same kindness and compassion you give to every patient that walks through the door.

To every veterinarian, technician, assistant, receptionist, kennel attendant, and animal care professional — your work matters, but so do you. ❤️

Check on your coworkers. Give yourself grace. Take the break when you need it. And remember that you never have to carry everything alone.

Today, and every day, let’s look out for the people behind the scrubs, the stethoscopes, the front desk, and the exam room doors. 🩺🐶🐱
