๐DOUBLE GRADUATION: KORRA & VINNY! ๐
This one is a little extra special because this wasnโt just about training two dogs individually; it was about completely changing what everyday life looked like for an entire household.
Meet Korra, a Shepherd/Husky mix, and Vinny, a Pitty mix.
When their parents first came to us, neither dog could confidently be walked individually, let alone together.
Korra had very little stability or impulse control. She pulled heavily on leash, had complaints at daycare, and was extremely fearful of people, particularly men. That fear presented as barking, growling, snipping and lunging when she felt uncomfortable.
Vinny was on the opposite end of the spectrum, but struggling just as much. He was terrified of seemingly everything and everyone. His lack of obedience was so visible, that he would launch himself over large pieces of furniture trying to get to things he wanted, sometimes hurting himself or damaging things in the process. He pulled everywhere on leash, couldnโt confidently navigate the world, and would submissively urinate and cower down when just approached.
Two very different dogs.
Two very different presentations.
One household that desperately needed more stability, communication and control.
And that meant we needed a plan.
We intentionally completed Vinnyโs Board & Train first. We knew his naturally calmer demeanor would make him the easier dog for Mom and Dad to begin learning with when he returned home, while Korra came to us for her Board & Train.
Vinny learned how to slow down, work through his fear instead of immediately trying to escape it, confidently navigate new environments, and rely on clear communication from his handler.
Then it was Korraโs turn.
With Korra, we worked heavily on obedience, neutrality and her acceptance of people, especially helping her learn that both men AND women could exist around her without being something she needed to react to.
And then came the part that mattered most:
Putting it all together.
Today, Mom and Dad can:
๐พ Walk BOTH dogs together or separately, on leash or off leash where appropriate. With a heel or loose leash ๐๐ป
๐พ Use Place to create structure throughout everyday life โ during meals, while bringing in groceries or packages, when going in and out of the house, and even when welcoming guests into their homeโฆ something they really couldnโt comfortably do before.
๐พ Take both dogs into public without the fear, submissive urination or reactivity that previously controlled their outings.
๐พ Confidently communicate with their dogs instead of constantly managing chaos.
๐พ Enjoy a home with significantly more structure, routine and control.
And we didnโt make it easy on them during training.
Both dogs had plenty of leash adventures โ because obedience that only works when everything is quiet and predictable, isnโt very useful in real life.
They worked through outdoor malls, dog-friendly restaurants, farmers markets and other busy environments with people, dogs, noises, movement and distractions. We wanted their obedience and neutrality to hold regardless of the situation, circumstance or environment.
Because the goal was never simply two dogs who could perform commands.
The goal was giving this family their life back together.
And theyโre not finished yet.
Mom and Dad are now completing the private lessons included with their Board & Train packages, where weโre taking everything another step further. Theyโre learning how to confidently handle both dogs at the same time, whether Mom or Dad is working the pair independently, theyโre handling one dog each, or theyโre working one dog completely solo.
The dogs learned their part.
Now weโre making sure their humans have the same confidence, communication and skills. โค๏ธ
Korra & Vinny โ officially Titan K9 Board & Train graduates. ๐๐พ
Two completely different dogs.
Two individualized training plans.
One much calmer, more confident household.
And THAT is what training should change. โค๏ธ
