The biggest catio we've ever built was for one cat.
Not a multi-cat household. One cat, and an owner who decided that cat should have the run of the yard.
That's the part most people don't expect. We've built for families with four cats and we've built for one very spoiled one, and the question was never how many cats there were. It's how much of the outdoors you want to hand over to them.
Here's what that looks like in a couple of dozen different houses.
Every piece bolts to every other piece, which is why most of these ended up bigger than they started. Somebody puts an enclosure off the patio door, lives with it a season, adds a tunnel along the fence the next spring, adds a tower the year after. The cats keep finding somewhere new to sit.

Somebody always asks about snow. One of these is in northern California, and that's what it looks like in winter. Galvanized steel under the powder coat, cedar for the wood — it doesn't much care.
Two of the cats in these pictures are ours. That's Spike and Oreo, watching Scruffy eat. Scruffy is feral, and she's also Oreo's mother. They've had the run of our own yard for years, which is how I know what holds up through an Arizona August.
