The Japanese Akitainu Club USA invites you to join us on Thursday, July 30, 2026, for the Nihon Ken Heritage Show and the Japanese Akitainu Specialty. Held in conjunction with the UKC Western Classic in Longview WA, this day serves as a celebration of the rich history, preservation, and community behind the native Japanese breeds.

We are honored to host two back-to-back specialty events:

SHOW 1: Nihon Ken Heritage Specialty

Judge: Claire Mancha

Eligible Breeds: Akita, Hokkaido, Japanese Akitainu, Kai, Kishu, Shiba, and Shikoku.

SHOW 2: Japanese Akitainu National Specialty

Judge: Cynthia Sanders

Eligible Breeds: Japanese Akitainu exclusively.

Classes Offered for Both Shows:
Specialty, Conformation (Altered Conformation, Junior Showmanship, Brace, Novice Puppy, Special Exhibition, and Veteran)

Exclusive Show Trophies & Memorabilia
In honor of this year's heritage event, we are proud to feature custom show prizes adorned with original, hand-drawn artwork commissioned specifically for our club. In the coming weeks, we will be previewing photographs of these unique prizes here on our page.

Additionally, we will be offering commemorative T-shirts featuring this custom artwork. Orders for these limited-edition shirts will open in the near future—keep an eye on our page for the official link so you can secure yours ahead of the show.

Hi everyone,

A few weeks ago, a very special girl came to us to foster. Her name is Rya.

Rya is a Shiba Inu whose journey began with a backyard breeder, where she was nearly euthanized when she didn’t sell. Thankfully, she found her way to a loving family, but due to circumstances beyond their control, they were unable to keep her long-term. For now, she is safe and loved here with us.

Rya is well-behaved, house-trained, and incredibly people-social. She gets along beautifully with other dogs and even cats. She enjoys spending time outdoors just as much as she loves snuggling up on the bed or sofa with us. Because of that, she will need a securely fenced yard and the ability to move freely in and out of the home—a doggie door would be ideal. Rya will need some work on her recall. She thinks its a game when you tell her it's time to come inside and likes to run, another reason a fenced yard is a must.

She is fully vetted, spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations, including her three-year rabies.

It is incredibly important to us that Rya finds the right home with the right family—one where she will never have to worry about losing her place again. Until that perfect forever home comes along, she will remain right here with us.
