Scott County Veterinary Clinic

Scott County Veterinary Clinic Scott County Veterinary Clinic is a full-service clinic and boarding facility that provides care for small and large animals.

In January of 2012, Scott County Veterinary Clinic opened its doors once again under the new ownership of Dr. Karen Hancock Young. The clinic had been in operation for over 30 years until late 2010, in the capable and caring hands of the late Dr. Luther James. Dr. Young is a native of Lexington, KY, and is a graduate of Paul Laurence Dunbar, the University of Kentucky, and the Auburn University Co

llege of Veterinary Medicine. She worked in a busy mixed animal practice in Northwest Georgia for two and a half years and now has returned closer to home to serve the community of Georgetown. She will continue to provide the same compassionate care to all of your animals, great and small. We look forward to seeing returning clients and patients of Dr. James, as well as lots of new faces as well! Stay tuned for our website currently under construction and we hope to see you soon and Scott County Veterinary Clinic! We now have a brand new clinic, right across the street from the old one, and our new boarding facilities are up and running. We are happy to provide care for your furry family members anytime, and even while you are away. You are welcome to bring their own beds, toys and food, or we can provide them. Come by and check out our new facilities!

Memorial Day Weekend Reminder 🐾
With increased holiday travel and adjusted shipping schedules, some products and prescriptions may take longer than usual to arrive or process. We never want a pet to run low on the medications or diets they rely on most.

If your pet is due soon for:
🐶 Prescription refills
🐱 Monthly preventatives
🦴 Prescription diets or food orders
💊 Long-term medications
Please give our team a call sooner rather than later so we can help make sure everything is ready before Memorial Day weekend.

Thank you for helping us keep your pets happy, healthy, and prepared heading into the holiday! 💙

Our hearts are incredibly full!
We were truly honored to learn that Scott County Veterinary Clinic was featured in the very first 2026 Georgetown, KY Coloring Book through the artwork of Ciara, a talented 5th grade student from Scott County schools.
When asked to draw her favorite thing that comes to mind in Georgetown, Ciara chose our clinic.

There are moments in community life that quietly remind you why the work matters and this was one of them for our entire team. To be seen through the eyes of a child as something memorable, comforting, and worthy of being part of our town’s story is a privilege we truly cannot put into words.

Ciara’s artwork is absolutely beautiful and we are so proud to help celebrate and share her creativity with our community! 💙

As a small way to honor the young artists who make Scott County so special, we’ll also be inviting kiddos visiting our clinic to join us in coloring while they wait so we can fill our lobby walls with community artwork inspired by the children around us.

Thank you, Ciara, for this incredible honor, and thank you to our community for allowing us to be part of your families, your pets’ lives, and the heart of Georgetown. It is our favorite pleasure!

To the moms who do it all:
the early mornings, the late nights, the comforting hugs, the full hearts, and the unconditional love.
Today, we celebrate you. 💙

And to the pet moms, too. The ones who never miss a medication, share the bed, worry endlessly, and love their animals like family… we see you.

We are lucky to witness the bond between pets and the people who love them every single day. It’s one of the most beautiful parts of what we do.

From all of us at SCVC, Happy Mother’s Day to the women who nurture, protect, guide, and love so deeply, whether your children have two legs or four. 🐾
Our worlds wouldn’t operate without you.

We hope your day is filled with peace, love, and a little extra tail wagging.♥️

🍎 With Gratitude to Those Who Give So Much 🐾

We’re constantly reminded that strong communities are built by people who show up with heart and our teachers do that every single day.
In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, we wanted to give back in a small but meaningful way to those who give so much of themselves:

🐶🐱 Wellness Care Package – $125 ($200 Value)
Including Wellness Exam, Core Vaccines, Heartworm tests and f***l checks.

Whether it’s long days, full classrooms, or the quiet moments of encouragement that change a child’s path: your impact reaches farther than you may ever know. We are truly honored to care for a community shaped by you.

As a clinic that believes deeply in education and mentorship through hosting and supporting future veterinary professionals, this felt especially close to our hearts.

💙 From our team to you, thank you for everything you pour into others.

📞 Call 502-863-5548 to reserve your spot
📅 Available May 4–8th, 2026 only — limited appointments available
📚 Please mention you’re an educator when scheduling. Discounts given at check with valid educator I.D.

Help us spread the word, as this offer is not exclusive to families already in our SCVC community, but any and every teacher across the community. Thank you all for everything you do!

Dr. Young had the pleasure of participating in the Stamping Ground Elementary Career Day this week and couldn’t have had more fun!🐾❤️

“I loved getting to visit my daughter’s school and share what it means to be a veterinarian. The kids were so curious, asked amazing questions, and (of course) loved meeting our furry helper, Nigel!

Moments like this are such a good reminder of why we do what we do. It’s not only caring for pets, but helping educate the next generation about compassion, responsibility, and the human-animal bond.”

Thank you to the school for having us and to all the future veterinarians in the room, keep dreaming big! 🐶✨

Did you have a little one that came home talking about their future dream-job? Tell us what they raved about in the comments!♥️

He has risen ✝️

This Easter, we are reminded of the profound gift of grace, the promise of renewal, and the steadfast love that unites us all. As we reflect on the meaning of this day, we are deeply grateful as a clinic to serve such a compassionate and trusting community and to care for the pets who hold such a special place in your families.

Thank you for allowing us to be part of your pets’ lives, as it is an honor we hold with great respect and responsibility.

Wishing you a blessed Easter filled with peace, joy, and the comfort of those you love. 🌷🐾

🐾 New Face Alert! Meet Maverick! 🐾

We had the pleasure of meeting the newest addition to one of our favorite families — Maverick! 💙🐱
This boy comes from a crew we know and love, so getting to welcome another fur-member into their family (and ours!) is truly such an honor. There’s nothing better than growing alongside families and caring for each new chapter — paws and all. 🐾

While Maverick wasn’t feeling his very best at his first visit, he’s already on the road to recovery and we know his personality is just waiting to shine through. ✨
We can’t wait to see him back in a few weeks, feeling better and ready to get started on a happy, healthy journey with us!

Welcome to the SCVC family, Maverick — we already adore you! 💕

March is National Pet Poison Prevention Month and it’s a great time to pause and think about the everyday items around our homes that could pose a danger to our pets. 🐾

Some of the most common pet toxins are things many of us keep within easy reach, like chocolate, other human foods, medications, and household cleaners. Curious noses and quick paws can get into trouble faster than we expect, so a little awareness can go a long way in keeping our pets safe.

One simple step every pet family should take is keeping a pet poison helpline number handy in case of an emergency. Quick access to expert guidance can make all the difference when minutes matter.
Pet Poison Hotline: 855-764-7661
ASPCA Animal Poison Control: 888-426-4435
Hotlines have emergency consult fees, but when racing against the clock, these first few minutes of calling can be vital to ensuring the best outcome for our beloved pets.

If you ever suspect your pet has ingested something they shouldn’t have, contact us right away so we can help guide you on the next steps.

Be sure to follow along with us throughout the month as we share more pet poison prevention tips. Later this month we’ll also dive into plant safety, just in time for spring. As April showers bring May flowers, some beautiful plants can be dangerous for curious pets.
Your pet’s safety is always our priority, and we’re here whenever you need us. 💙

🐾 Meet Rusty Craig! 🐾

Over the past few weeks, we’ve had the pleasure of getting to know one very handsome young pup: Rusty Craig, a 14 week old red Labrador who has been visiting us for his puppy vaccine series. Let us tell you… Rusty has already completely stolen our hearts! (We know, we say this always, but its true!)

Rusty is preparing to wrap up his final round of puppy vaccines next week, and around here we like to say that means he’s getting ready to "graduate with flying colors" for a job well done. From brave visits to plenty of tail wags, he’s handled every appointment like a champ.

With that sweet face and classic Lab personality, Rusty is already proving he’s going to be a true heart-stealer wherever he goes. And honestly… who doesn’t love a good ole Lab? ❤️🐶

We’re so thankful Rusty and his family are part of the Scott County Veterinary Clinic family, and we can’t wait to see all the adventures ahead for this growing boy.
