Scott County Veterinary Clinic Scott County Veterinary Clinic is a full-service clinic and boarding facility that provides care for small and large animals.

In January of 2012, Scott County Veterinary Clinic opened its doors once again under the new ownership of Dr. Karen Hancock Young. The clinic had been in operation for over 30 years until late 2010, in the capable and caring hands of the late Dr. Luther James. Dr. Young is a native of Lexington, KY, and is a graduate of Paul Laurence Dunbar, the University of Kentucky, and the Auburn University Co

llege of Veterinary Medicine. She worked in a busy mixed animal practice in Northwest Georgia for two and a half years and now has returned closer to home to serve the community of Georgetown. She will continue to provide the same compassionate care to all of your animals, great and small. We look forward to seeing returning clients and patients of Dr. James, as well as lots of new faces as well! Stay tuned for our website currently under construction and we hope to see you soon and Scott County Veterinary Clinic! We now have a brand new clinic, right across the street from the old one, and our new boarding facilities are up and running. We are happy to provide care for your furry family members anytime, and even while you are away. You are welcome to bring their own beds, toys and food, or we can provide them. Come by and check out our new facilities!

We know how quickly a holiday weekend can sneak up on us and the last thing anyone wants is to realize they’re down to the last scoop of food or dose of medication when offices are closed! ❤️

As we head toward Labor Day weekend, things are already getting a little busier around SCVC, here's a friendly nudge to take a quick look at what your pets may need ahead of the holiday.

💊 Running low on a medication? Send that refill request our way!

🥫 Need prescription food? Give the pantry a quick check, especially for diets we may need to special order.

🏡 Planning a trip? Boarding reservations are filling up, so reach out soon if your furry family needs to stay with ours!

💉 Traveling elsewhere ? Double-check vaccine records and make sure everyone is up to date before you head out.

🐾 And don’t forget the little things: preventatives, anxiety medications, supplements, or anything else that keeps your pet happy, healthy and comfortable.

Getting those requests to us early helps our team make sure everyone is taken care of before the holiday rush and gives you one less thing to worry about!

🍂 Why Is My Pet So Itchy? 🐾
As summer begins to wind down and we start looking toward fall, many pets begin scratching, chewing, and licking more than usual. While cooler weather may be on the horizon, allergy season is often just getting started.

If your pet seems extra itchy, there are several common causes, including:
🌿 Environmental Allergies – Pollens, molds, grasses, and weeds can trigger itchy skin, paws, ears, and hot spots.
🦠 Skin Infections – Constant scratching can lead to bacterial or yeast infections that make the itch even worse.
🥣 Food Allergies – Some pets develop sensitivities to ingredients in their diet, resulting in persistent itching, ear infections, or skin irritation.
🪳 Fleas & External Parasites – It only takes one flea bite for some pets to have a significant allergic reaction. Fleas, ticks, and mites remain active well into the fall, making year-round prevention essential.

As backpacks are packed, classrooms come back to life, and families settle into new routines this week, we’d love for our SCVC community to join us in wishing all of our local students, teachers, school staff, and families a wonderful start to the new school year!

We know the first few weeks can bring a mix of excitement, nerves, early mornings, busy schedules and maybe a few pets wondering why their favorite little humans are suddenly gone all day. ❤️

🐱💙 Happy International Cat Day! 💙🐱
Today we're celebrating the whiskered companions who rule our homes (and our hearts).

Whether they're chasing toy mice at 2 a.m., supervising every Zoom call, claiming the warmest spot in the house, or reminding us exactly when dinner should be served, cats have a special way of making life a little more entertaining and a whole lot more lovable.

At Scott County Veterinary Clinic, we're honored to care for cats through every stage of life—from curious kittens discovering the world to wise senior cats who have perfected the art of the afternoon nap. Every purr, head bump, and slow blink reminds us why we love what we do.

🐾✨ We had the sweetest little visitors this week... a tuft of Pomeranian puppies!

Did you know a group of three Pomeranians is called a tuft? We learned something new while soaking up all the puppy snuggles!

These three precious fluff balls came to see us for their very first visit and to get started on their pediatric vaccine series. First puppy visits are some of our favorites, not just because they're impossibly adorable, but because they mark the beginning of a lifetime of health, trust, and care.

It's such an honor to walk alongside families from the very beginning of their pet's journey. Watching these tiny puppies grow into happy, healthy companions is one of the greatest privileges of what we do.

Welcome to the SCVC family, little ones! We already can't wait to watch you grow.
