🫎 🫎QUALITY IS IN THE DETAILS!🫎🫎

When transporting cervids like moose across the border into the States, the antlers must be thoroughly cleaned and free of all tissue. This creates an extra step in the process that shouldn’t be overlooked!

One thing that can easily get missed is the grease left behind during the boiling process. As grease renders out, it can adhere to the antlers, eventually creating unpleasant odors, attracting bugs, and becoming a magnet for dust if it isn’t properly addressed.

Here’s a look at my cleaning process. First, a preliminary wash with Dawn dish soap to loosen things up, followed by a thorough scrub with a professional degreaser. Once I’m satisfied with the cleanliness, I finish with a final scrub using OdoBan.

The boiling process can also change the natural appearance of the antlers, darkening some areas while the steam lightens others. Once they’re completely cleaned, these antlers will be recolored to the client’s specifications.

These extra steps might not be the most glamorous part of taxidermy, but they’re part of doing the job right. It’s about more than getting a mount out the door. It’s about paying attention to the details that help preserve your trophy and the memories behind it for years to come.

We have officially reached our quota for **new-client bear work** for the time being.

If you’re an existing client, you’re still welcome to reach out and inquire. Depending on the scope of your project, I also have a few other very talented taxidermists I may be able to refer you to.

And if you just *have to have me* do your bear… I do have another option. 😉

There are a few different ways we may be able to make it work, depending on the project and what you’re looking for.

If you have a bear in your freezer or have questions about your options, please reach out. I’m always happy to talk through it with you!

❄️🦌 I call this unique piece ❄️❄️ First Snow Slumber.❄️❄️

Talk about a work of art! This one definitely came with its challenges.

To start, this isn’t your typical shoulder mount. We went with a laying-down half mount, which already makes for a unique presentation.

Then came the bigger challenge—the hide was compromised from being found in the river and partially eaten. On top of that, we had two antler tine rebuilds that needed to be addressed.

The habitat became a big part of the solution. I designed it not only to complement the mount, but also to creatively disguise some of the damage and incorporate it naturally into the finished piece.

I think it turned out pretty great. Sometimes the most challenging projects are the ones that push you to get a little more creative. ❄️🦌

🦌 Good luck to everyone heading out for Michigan’s whitetail archery opener!🍁

Another season is here, and with it comes the excitement of early mornings, crisp fall air, time spent in the woods, and the opportunity to make memories that last a lifetime.

Whether you’re after a trophy buck or simply enjoying some time outdoors, **be safe, enjoy every moment, and never lose sight of what makes hunting special.** The memories made and the time spent with family and friends are just as important as what you bring home.

If you’re fortunate enough to harvest a deer this season, please remember to take proper care of your trophy from the very beginning.Proper field care makes a tremendous difference in the finished mount. Get your deer to your chosen taxidermist as soon as possible, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions about field care, skinning, caping, or getting your deer properly prepared.

A little extra care in the field can make all the difference in preserving your trophy for years to come.
