This is really hard to share... but I need to share the losses we have had this summer.. starting with our sweet sweet Fawndue. We will likely not be raising purebred Flemish Giants any longer. We also lost our French Lop buck, Toast as well this summer. It happened without any warning and shortly after a hail storm that maybe stressed them too much. As many of you know.. our rabbitry is very protected from the weather but the metal roof can be loud. Having little to no sales this year, forced us to cut back on our rabbitry. We also will take this time to reconstruct.
On a side note, I have my buck from Fawndue's last litter(our red New Zeland is the father). We have named him Nacho and hope to breed him to our half Flemish Giant doe Gouda. We also kept the one kit from Butter and Toast, I will share pictures and updates as I can.
On a very important note, we opted to have a necropsy done at MSU which our vet suggested, after trying to help our poor Fawndue. These test results basically came back saying that there was nothing we could have done to prevent and that whatever was going on is not contagious. It was just a very bad streak of loss that we had going through our rabbitry.
