When the LPS start glowing, it’s hard to remember this is a real aquarium and not an underwater light show. 🤩🪸

Just a little top-down view of the reef showing off under the blues. 💙✨

💧 Water change done… now bringing the reef back to life 🪸🐠

Quick reef tank update after a water change! 💧

I talk a little about how much water I changed, then a few of the fish decided they wanted some camera time. 😂🐠

Nothing fancy—just another day keeping the reef healthy and growing. 🪸

💚💛🧡 Would you put these in your reef?

There’s something about a healthy Zoanthid colony under blue reef lighting that never gets old.
These are currently growing out in our system, and I think the colors on these are absolutely incredible.
What do you see first — the green skirt, orange/yellow center, or the crazy fluorescence? 👀

🦐 Can a nano skimmer make a difference in a 25-gallon mangrove tank?
I’m putting the UNS Protein Nano Skimmer to the test on my 25-gallon mangrove nano tank! 🌱🪸
In this quick video, I’m unboxing the skimmer, taking a closer look at the design, and getting it running in the tank for the first time.
Will it actually pull some nasty stuff out of this little system? 👀
Follow along and let’s see how it performs!

What does a Bubble Tip Anemone actually need to thrive? 🪸

This is an ECC Nexus Burst Bubble Tip Anemone (Entacmaea quadricolor), currently about 2–2.5 inches fully extended.

And while Bubble Tip Anemones are often described simply as “photosynthetic,” there's a little more going on than that.

E. quadricolor lives in a symbiotic relationship with microscopic dinoflagellate algae from the family Symbiodiniaceae. Those symbionts use light to photosynthesize and provide energy to their host.

So lighting matters — but lighting isn't the whole story.

🌞 LIGHT: The anemone's symbiotic algae need light for photosynthesis.

🌊 FLOW: Water movement helps with gas exchange, brings dissolved nutrients toward the animal, and carries away waste. The goal isn't simply “more flow.” The anemone needs movement that it can tolerate without being constantly blasted or unable to remain attached.

🍤 NUTRITION: Research on E. quadricolor has demonstrated that feeding can improve growth-related outcomes and reduce weight loss under experimental conditions. In other words, photosynthesis doesn't mean anemones don't benefit from additional nutrition.

🌡️ STABILITY: Temperature is also important. Research on this species has documented seasonal reproductive patterns associated with temperature, and experimental work has shown that elevated temperatures can induce bleaching.

One of the things I love about reef keeping is that there's usually more happening than we can see.

What looks like a beautiful Bubble Tip Anemone is actually an animal living in partnership with microscopic organisms that help power its life.
That's pretty incredible.

🪸 BTS HOLY GRAIL BTA 🔥

This one needs to be seen in person.
The BTS Holy Grail Bubble Tip Anemone is known for its incredible coloration, but this specimen is something special.

💚 Electric green tentacles
💛 Golden-yellow transitions
🩷 Pink bubble tips

That combination really comes alive under reef lighting.
This specimen is currently around 3" fully expanded and is thriving under moderate lighting and moderate flow.
The green on this one isn't your typical green BTA. Combined with those yellow and pink tips, it creates an absolutely incredible contrast.
