Collar position, as well as where the lead attaches to the collar can affect how the dog gaits in the show ring.

I recently worked with a dog whose movement had a great deal of lift and bounce, more so than is desirable. I suggested the handler switch the collar so the clip was positioned underneath the neck rather than coming up from the top. The change was immediate. The difference in collar position immediately changed the dog's movement for the better.

Don't be afraid to experiment with equipment and position. Do not experiment in the show ring, experiment at home, in training sessions without distractions and if you decide you want to make a change train your dog to be comfortable with the adjustment.

Are any Australian Terrier people planning on showing in Hamlin, NY at the end of August? The entries are due next Wed. 8/12 and I'm trying to decide if I should enter. If no one else has class dogs going then I won't enter. I'd love to see you all. Let me know if you are going. Thanks. Karen Drumm
