As we celebrate the Day of the Dead, I came across a post from a social media friend I’d never met in person. She was sharing her experience with her son at school, mentioning Edgar Allan Poe and his famous poem “The Raven.” Her post brought back a flood of memories with my mother, who immigrated from Ukraine and loved Poe’s works. I vividly remember my mother reading Poe to me as a child, and later, we would read his poems together. One of my favorite memories is watching the classic film “The Raven” starring Vincent Price. Even though I miss my mother every day, I’m reminded that the Day of the Dead is a celebration of life, not death. Thank you, Samantha, for your post that sparked these memories. To everyone, I want to say that there’s no love as loyal and genuine as a mother’s love.”
