🇺🇸 Holiday Hours Reminder! 🐾❤️

Tender Heart Veterinary Care P.C. will be closed on Friday, July 3 in observance of the Independence Day holiday.

If your pet is prescribed medication to help with firework or noise anxiety, please make sure to request any refills as soon as possible. All refill requests must be received and picked up by 3:00 PM on Thursday so we have enough time to prepare them before the holiday closure.

🎆 A few reminders for a safe holiday:
🐶 Keep pets indoors during fireworks.
🏷️ Make sure collars and ID tags are up to date.
🚪 Keep doors and gates secure, as frightened pets are more likely to run.

We hope you and your furry family members have a safe, happy, and stress-free holiday weekend! ❤️🐾🇺🇸

Great Job K-9 Zeus 💗

On Thursday, June 18 at approximately 1:12 am, Orange Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Drew Boulevard and Oak Drive for vehicles being broken into. Officers working the 11pm to 7am shift arrived in the area quickly. Three juvenile suspects fled from police into the woods. OPD quickly set up a perimeter and requested K9 Zeus for a suspect track.

K-9 Zeus and his handler, Officer Johnson responded and began a track from where one of the suspects left a bicycle. K-9 Zeus led officers through back yards and woods and eventually to a wooded area off of Oak Drive where two of the suspects were hiding. Both juveniles were apprehended. The third juvenile suspect surrendered to police on Drew Boulevard.

The suspects broke into and stole items from at least 12 vehicles. The majority of the stolen items were recovered and are in the process of being returned to the victims.

Excellent work by OPD mid-shift (Officers Hager and Starbard), K-9 Zeus, MSP, Athol PD, and Franklin County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit.

May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month 💚🐾

Around New England, tick season is unfortunately part of life for both people and pets. Lyme disease is most commonly spread by the black-legged tick (also called the deer tick), which is very common in our area.

The good news? Prevention and early detection really do matter.

Some signs of Lyme disease in pets can include:
🐾 Limping or stiffness
🐾 Fever
🐾 Low energy
🐾 Decreased appetite
🐾 Sensitivity or discomfort moving around

Even pets who spend most of their time in the yard can still be exposed, which is why year-round tick prevention is so important.

And for our humans : if you or your child are bitten by a tick, many universities and laboratories throughout New England offer tick identification and testing services. Sending the tick in can sometimes help determine what diseases it may have been carrying and provide helpful information for your healthcare provider.

A few quick reminders:
✔️ Check pets (and yourself!) after being outdoors
✔️ Pay extra attention around ears, collars, between toes, and under legs
✔️ Remove ticks promptly with fine-tipped tweezers
✔️ Keep up with veterinarian-recommended preventatives

Ticks may be tiny… but prevention makes a huge difference. 💚

If you have questions about Lyme disease testing or prevention options for your pet, we’re always happy to help.
