Garden City Veterinary will be closing Friday, August 21st at 5:30 pm for appointments and emergencies and reopening on Monday, August 24th at 8 am due to a family funeral out of the area.
Unfortunately, if you have an emergency during this time you will need to try the other veterinary clinics in the area or an emergency clinic in one of the surrounding major cities. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Grayco's mom noticed that she has been a little naughty after surgery. Poor Grayco has to be in a cone for about 2 weeks now and can't play with her brother. She's going to be a sad baby girl!
Post-surgically patients need to be calmer than normal and not lick or chew at their incisions. They also can't have baths for 2 weeks after surgery, which usually isn't a problem for kitties.

Puppies need to be fed food specifically designed and balanced for them until they are 12 months or older, 18 months in giant breed dogs, for the best developmentally and also for long-term health.

The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) supports pet nutrition standards set by the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO). Growing puppies require dense, balanced nutrition, alongside precise calcium-to-phosphorus ratios to support safe skeletal and neurological development. Veterinary Feeding Guidelines Growth Label: Select commercial foods explicitly formulated and labeled for "growth" or "all life stages" (verified by AAFCO statements)

DHA (Omega-3): Strongly supported by veterinary studies for healthy brain and retinal development.

Large Breeds: Large and giant-breed puppies need specialized large-breed growth formulas to regulate growth speed and protect joints.

Body Condition: Keep puppies lean during their growth cycle rather than overweight to safeguard long-term skeletal health.

"Penny" came in to visit us today for an eye re-check.
Isn't she just adorable!
Unfortunately, puppies, some old and some young, sometimes go full speed ahead into trouble. If an animal starts holding their eyes closed, all the way or just squinting, usually with increased eye drainage, most likely we will need to see them to check for a wound or damage to the eye.
Without appropriate treatment eye wounds can get to be substantial size, leave large scars or even lead to eye ruptures.

Happy Independence Day!
Garden City Veterinary Clinic will be closing at 5:30 pm on Friday, July 3rd and will be closed in observation of the Independence Day holiday until 8:00 am Monday, July 6th.
If you have an emergency during that time you can call the clinic, 620-276-2663, and follow the instructions on how to leave a message or the on-call doctor to call you back.

How well do your pets handle fireworks?
Do you have a plan?
Giving our pets a safe, quiet area within their comfort zone, whatever area of the house that maybe, is best. Setting up that comfort zone now so that they can get used to it is also a good idea, because moving them at the last minute ,when they are all stressed, can make that stress worse.
