Thanks for all the interest in Vdor's story! He is on a trial adoption for the weekend! Fingers crossed it all goes well!!
Story time on this Friday morning, a nonfiction story:
Remember Vdor? He came to us as a stray on Monday, August 24th, as he was running on Rt 34 in Galva by Casey's. We were lucky and he was microchipped! We reunite so many pets with their owners due to microchips. There were 3 different phone numbers on file with the microchip company and NONE of them were Vdor's owner and none of the people we got in contact with could tell us the current phone number of Vdor's owner. Dead end....
We got another phone number from someone for Vdor's owner and again dead end....
We heard Vdor's owner was employed at the I80 Walcott truck stop so we called there, another dead end....
We know where Vdor lives and sent the police to his house and drove past multiple times a day, another dead end....
It is the City of Galva's ordinance that if we know who the owner is, we have to keep the doggie for 5 days before we can try to adopt it out so we have kept Vdor. He knows sit, shake, stay and loves to play fetch! He is an older guy but still a typical German Shepherd that deserves a great home.
Vdor was still intact so we scheduled him for a neuter and full bloodwork on Wednesday, September 2, to ready him for adoption. NINE DAYS AFTER HE WAS IMPOUNDED. His bloodwork, heartworm test and neuter went beautifully!
Now the story gets interesting....
Just after we got Vdor off of the surgery table, a gentleman comes in the clinic stating that he has been looking for our clinic for DAYS because he believes we have his German Shepherd..... He greets Dr. Stevens with "Hey, Boss Lady! Do you have my dog?"
We confirmed that we did in fact have Vdor but that he was currently very sleepy from his castration. We explain the city ordinance to the owner and he was happy that Vdor got neutered as hopefully that will make him stay home more. He told us he would be back on Thursday to pick up Vdor.
The owner then asked us if he owed us anything. Dr. Stevens told him the only thing he owes is for the impoundment fee from the City of Galva - $30 per day for the 5 days - $150 owed to City Hall. He stated he really didn't like going to City Hall but that he would go in the morning and then come pick up Vdor. Dr. Stevens asked him for a current phone number and explained about all of the numbers and avenues we have gone down to try to contact him. HE GAVE US HIS CURRENT PHONE NUMBER!
Also, keep in mind that we just spent quite a chunk of money getting Vdor ready for adoption, which we were not going to charge the owner for. We are so lucky to have people in Galva and the surrounding communities support the Galva Puppy Fund and this Fund was going to take care of those costs. We were just happy the owner was finally able to find us and his doggie.
It is now Friday.... As you can see, Vdor had a great walk this morning. Vdor's owner never came back yesterday, on Thursday, when he said he would. Dr. Stevens called him 3 times yesterday, texted him twice, offered for the owner to pay her the $150 and she would deliver it to City Hall, since the owner does not like going there..... Chief Townsend went to the owner's house, also called the owner and again a DEAD END!!!
Dr. Stevens believes the best in everyone but this one has her blood boiling!!
