This happened very recently- an owner of a lost pet was scammed out of money and left heartbroken when they found out their pet hadn't been found. Please share.

LOCAL LOST & INJURED PET PHONE SCAM:
If you receive an urgent call from anyone claiming to be staff from a Sacramento area animal shelter (even if it looks legitimate on your caller ID) and they are demanding you pay them money over the phone or via text to treat or reclaim your injured pet, immediately hang up and call your local shelter directly.

Families in Sacramento who have lost a pet and posted on the various lost/found pet social media groups are being targeted by this phone scam. These scammers use details from the lost/found pet post to contact the owner and legitimize the call by describing the injured pet and location it was found.

If you receive one of these calls, do not provide your personal or financial information. Please hang up immediately and contact your shelter directly to avoid being a victim of this heartbreaking scam:

COMING SOON

Daphne is a wonderful 6ish-year old with the classic joyful disposition you’d expect of a Labrador retriever. She smiles with her whole face and shows her zest for life by wagging her entire body! Daphne came to us from a shelter in Bakersfield and her backstory is unknown. She was comfortable in her foster home immediately and is well behaved. She's got good energy but is also happy to just follow you around the house and take naps. Daphne is fully housebroken and can be left alone for several hours. She does occasionally enjoy stealing laundry from the basket and carrying it around the house!

Daphne has excellent leash manners until she sees another human or dog in the distance, at which time she does pull. She will be working with a trainer on this and we anticipate that, given how quickly she learned commands like sit, out and wait, she will improve in this regard. She had a short temporary stay with a foster family who had other animals and she did display some guarding behavior w toys and treats around the fosters dog.

She is currently undergoing medical treatment for kennel cough and will also be having surgery to be spayed and will be available soon.

Daphne is the happiest of girls! She rarely barks. She sleeps soundly all night long on a mat at the foot of the bed. She is eager to learn and to please and is looking forward to being someone's best girl! At this time she would do best in a home as an only dog so she can spread her loves and kisses to every human in the house!
