BIG WIN FOR OHIO ANIMALS!
Steffen Baldwin loses appeal.
On October 5, 2026, the Third District Court of Appeals affirmed the conviction and sentence of Steffen Baldwin, rejecting the arguments raised in his appeal. Baldwin had appealed his convictions and the aggregate 15.5-year prison sentence imposed by the Union County Common Pleas Court.
Baldwin raised numerous claims on appeal, challenging everything from the evidence supporting his convictions to speedy-trial issues, alleged prosecutorial misconduct, ineffective assistance of counsel, and the length of his sentence. The appellate court found no prejudicial error warranting reversal and overruled his assignments of error.
Baldwin also argued that his 15.5-year sentence was excessive and contrary to law. The court rejected that argument, finding that his individual prison terms were within the statutory ranges and that he had not demonstrated that the sentence was unlawful. His 15.5-year prison sentence therefore remains intact.
This decision is an important victory for the animals who were harmed, the people who fought for accountability, and everyone working to protect animals in Ohio. Those who present themselves as animal rescuers and advocates must be held accountable when their actions result in cruelty, deception, and exploitation.
The judgment was affirmed. The convictions stand. The sentence stands. Today, that is a big win for Ohio animals. 🐾
