Did you know a broken toenail is one of the most painful injuries a dog can experience? 😢 This sweet corgi came in with a broken nail and needed sedation to keep him comfortable and still during the procedure — and honestly, he deserved every bit of that beauty sleep! 😴

✅ Sedation kept him pain-free and relaxed
✅ Both a vet tech and a veterinarian were present for the procedure
✅ We gave ALL his nails a fresh trim while he was resting 💅
✅ He woke up feeling SO much better!

⚠️ If your pet has a broken toenail, don't try to handle it at home — it is extremely painful and can lead to infection. Get them seen right away!

✨ Staff Spotlight ✨ Meet Dr. Amybeth Rice.

She was born and raised in Hermitage, TN before attending the College of Charleston to study Spanish and Marine Biology. During a solo research project for Marine Biology, she recognized that she craved more interaction. This led her to UT Knoxville and she completed her veterinary degree in 2005.

What Dr. Rice loves most about her work is being part of the human-animal bond. There's nothing she finds more rewarding than watching a family welcome a new pet and grow together from day one.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Rice is a devoted pet parent. She shares her home with Eeyore, a playful 5-month-old French Bulldog, and two 15-year-old brother cats, Bogart and Grant, whom she rescued when they were 10 years old. She's married to Dr. Jason Bruce, who is also a veterinarian.

You can find Dr. Rice at Bluegrass Vet Monday through Wednesday, from 10am to 8pm.
