Help us take Phoenix — “Outta the Ashes” — all the way to Kentucky!

08/24/2026

Yesterday was another day full of little victories and big moments with Phoenix, my Bluegrass Mustang Makeover Challenge Mustang. ❤️🐴

Phoenix opened and closed gates several times, carried a flag again, and continued building the confidence and trust he’ll need as I prepare him to help carry sponsor flags during the Chanute Bit & Spur Saddle Club Rodeo. We even made a trip to Sonic, grabbed some drinks, and carried them back to the arena!

From there, Phoenix stepped up onto my small pedestal, and one of my favorite moments of the day was watching my son, Riggin, get to ride him around. We even filmed a TikTok doing some of the “crazy” things Phoenix has learned, and I spent some time playing around with crawling underneath him.

Just a few months ago, Phoenix was a wild, unhandled Mustang who wasn’t sure he could trust people. Now, he is willingly opening gates, carrying flags, standing on obstacles, carrying drinks, and allowing my little boy to ride him.

He continues to amaze me with just how willing, curious, and trusting he has become. Every day, I’m reminded that this journey isn’t just about teaching a horse skills—it’s about building a relationship and showing him that he can trust the person beside him.

And while I’m trying not to think too much about the finish line yet, there is a bittersweet part of this journey: Phoenix will be offered for sale at the conclusion of the Bluegrass Mustang Makeover Challenge. Whoever ultimately takes him home will be getting so much more than a trained Mustang. They’ll be getting a horse who has worked incredibly hard to learn to trust and who has shown me just how special he can be. ❤️🔥

🔥 Want to be part of Phoenix’s journey?
Phoenix merch is still available for those who want to support the journey and wear a little piece of the “Outta the Ashes” story.

I’m also still booking school visits and inspirational speaking opportunities through October 26th! Phoenix and I would love the opportunity to share his story of overcoming fear, building trust, believing in yourself, and never giving up with your students or organization.

If you’d like Phoenix to visit your school, group, or event—or you’d like to grab some merch and support us on the road to Kentucky—send me a message!

Every purchase, share, invitation, and word of encouragement helps us get one step closer to the Bluegrass Mustang Makeover. ❤️🐴🔥

Until then, we’ve still got work to do. Kentucky, here we come!

Today's Bluegrass Mustang Makeover challenge update. Pheonix got to go to our official feed sponsor Cleaver Farm & Home for the Chanute Bit & Spur Saddle Club ag day. He did amazing he stood in his pen with the generators from the food trucks right next to him. He also got out got some pets from some new fans, got a massage and we took some photos infront of the store then we started some work on stepping up on the pedestal after the rain storm.

When we got back to the arena I let phoenix out to Graze with Liz Thompson 's horses and he loved it. At one point he even was running around trying to get the "old folks" to play with him.

Also if you weren't able to make it and want a shirt attached below is the order form with designs!

Phoenix Update 🔥🐴

We’re taking a little time to go back through some of the things Phoenix has already learned and freshen them up in his head. At this point, it’s not always about teaching something new—it’s about building confidence, consistency, and making sure those lessons stay solid no matter what we put in front of him.

With the Bluegrass Mustang Makeover Challenge getting closer, these little refreshers are becoming just as important as the big, flashy obstacles. We’re building a mustang who can think, trust, and try—even when something feels new or challenging.

And we couldn’t be doing this journey without the amazing people who have chosen to support Phoenix and this dream. ❤️ A huge thank you to our sponsors Cleaver Farm & Home Tribute Equine Nutrition Arrow S Custom Designs Sunflower Horseshoeing Sharon Harrison Mindy Kasten

Day 52 of Bluegrass Mustang Makeover Challenge.

Sorry i haven't been posting as I've been working on flyers and posters and merch graphics and banners and all for our trip to Kentucky in october!

But here is the updates. Merch order forms will be available at my booth at the Chanute Bit & Spur Saddle Club Ag Day August 22nd from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cleaver Farm & Home the official feed sponsor of Phoenix's Favorite dinner source Tribute Equine Nutrition.

If you've been looking for merch this will be where it debuts!! All merch is pre-order only.

As for what phoenix is up to well we were able to hit a local show this past sunday his first outting. He placed 2nd in trail he wouldnt sidepass over the log but tried to infront of the log. Then he had a really nice horsemanship pattern except for he had a sloppy stop we placed 2nd and then we got1st in Jr. Horse pleasure.

After that I reconnected with an old acquaintance who is going to help me put some more finess on phoenix focusing on his headset and softening him up (shout out to Crystal Henderson Zimmerman of Pine Z Quarter Horses)

Then we finished by riggin placing 2nd in barrels on Nash and me placing first.

Thank you to our Current sponsors!

🐝 BEE:
Alright, everyone, settle down.

We've taken over Mom's social media again because apparently she has been terrible at keeping everyone updated.

Honestly, it's embarrassing.

She's been busy doing all sorts of things and somehow hasn't found the time to properly inform the public about how amazing we are.

So naturally, we've decided to handle it ourselves.

You're welcome.

I, Bee, will be overseeing this operation because clearly I'm the most qualified.

Phoenix will be handling the wholesome stuff.

Nash will be handling… whatever it is Nash does.

🎶 NASH:
SECURITY.

🐝 BEE:
Right.....🙄🤨😬

Security.

Anyway, we have apparently been on several adventures lately, and since Mom can't be bothered to tell you about them, we're going to give you the official version.

No exaggerations.

No embellishments.

Just the truth.

🔥 PHOENIX:
Are we supposed to tell them everything?

🐝 BEE:
Absolutely.

🎶 NASH:
NO.

Some things are classified.

🐝 BEE:
Nobody cares about your classified information, Nash.

🎶 NASH:
That's exactly what someone who wants the information would say.

🐝 BEE:
And this is why I run the page.

---

🐝 BEE:

Friday Night: Obviously, Everyone Loved Me

Friday night I went to Galesburg Christian Church.

And, as expected, I was amazing.

Everyone loved me.

I even did my pedestal trick again. Hopped right up like I owned the place, stood perfectly still on that little raised platform, and gave everyone plenty of time to admire me.

Honestly, I think it really elevated the whole experience.

Literally.

I walked in, looked handsome, behaved myself, and generally reminded everyone what a talented and impressive individual I am.

You're welcome. 😎

Mom seemed pretty proud of me, too.

Which is nice.

I already knew I was impressive, but it's always good when the public catches up.

Phoenix is still learning about the whole "being admired" thing.

Nash is still learning about the whole "not freaking out about literally everything" thing.

So really, I'm carrying this operation.

🎶 NASH:
You stood on a box.

🐝 BEE:
A pedestal.

🎶 NASH:
A box.

🐝 BEE:
Jealousy isn't a good look on you, Nash.

🎶 NASH:
I'm not jealous.

I'm suspicious of elevated surfaces.

🐝 BEE:
Of course you are.

🔥 PHOENIX:

Saturday: I Went to the Store!

It was an adventure!

The human apparently thought it would be fun to leave the safety of the arena which i live in a go down the road and over a bridge and pass weird sign things and into town.

Their were so many loud noises and strange things to see all these people had these loud horse things on wheels the human informed me they were cars.... I think cars are strange.

We went to Cleaver Farm & Home, and I got to see where my Tribute Equine Nutrition comes from.

The human kept laughing and saying that our adventure today gave a whole new meaning to:

“Taking my Mustang to the store.”

I don't really understand the joke. She tried to explain it to me but it had something to do with the horses on wheels.

But she seemed very proud of herself.

I thought it was pretty neat!

I got to go somewhere new, see new things, meet people, and experience another part of this big world I'm learning about.

Everyone was really nice.

I like going places with my human.

Every adventure teaches me something, and I'm starting to realize that there are a LOT of interesting things in this world.

I wonder where we'll go next. 😊

Bluegrass Mustang Makeover

🐝 BEE:
Probably somewhere people can admire me.

🔥 PHOENIX:
Maybe!

🐝 BEE:
That's not what I meant.

🎶 NASH:
WAIT.

You took him to a FARM STORE?!

Were there tractors?!

Loud machinery?!

Dogs?!

Children?!

Tarps?!

Suspicious people?!

🔥 PHOENIX:
It was really nice, Nash.

🎶NASH:
That's exactly how they get you comfortable.

🔥 PHOENIX:
…Oh.

🐝 BEE:
Don't listen to him.

He's been watching too many documentaries.

🎶 NASH:
THE DOCUMENTARIES ARE TRYING TO WARN US.

---

🎶 NASH:

Baxter Springs: I Have Concerns

I would like to begin by stating that I MADE A REALLY GOOD RUN.

A REALLY good run.

Despite being surrounded by horses with approximately twelve-foot legs.

Do you know how difficult it is to keep up with horses that have legs like that when yours are approximately the size of drinking straws?!

I was MOVING.

My little legs were working overtime.

Maximum speed.

Maximum effort.

Maximum psychological damage.

But there was something about those other horses that didn't sit right with me.

🐝 BEE:
Here we go.

🎶 NASH:
I'm serious.

Have you ever looked closely at a barrelhorse?

Long legs.

Fast.

Suspiciously coordinated.

Unnaturally athletic.

I'm telling you, Bee…

I think some of them might be aliens.

🐝 BEE:
They're barrelhorses.

🎶NASH:
That's what they WANT you to think.

Think about it.

They show up at the rodeo.

They run incredibly fast.

They have those suspiciously long legs.

And somehow they're all perfectly capable of navigating the pattern.

ALIENS.

🐝 BEE:
Or—and stay with me here—they're horses that run barrels.

🎶NASH:
You're being very dismissive of my findings.

🐝 BEE:
Because your findings are stupid.

🎶 NASH:
I conduct high-level risk assessments.

🐝 BEE:
You screamed at a barrel.

🎶 NASH:
IT WAS TOO CLOSE.

🐝 BEE:
It was literally part of the pattern.

🎶NASH:
EXACTLY.

They put it there to make me think they knew I was onto them.

🐝 BEE:
I think your brain needs a vacation.

🎶 NASH:
MY BRAIN IS THE ONLY THING KEEPING US ALIVE.

Anyway…

despite the obvious alien presence on the premises, I made a really good run.

I did my job.

My little legs gave it everything they had.

And I survived.

Which, frankly, is more than I expected considering I was surrounded by extraterrestrial horses.

Now, I thought the weirdness was over once we loaded up and left.

I WAS WRONG.

Because shortly after we got on the road…

the tire went flat.....it had to be the ALIENS

🐝 BEE:
It was a flat tire.

🎶 NASH:
A suspiciously timed flat tire.

🐝 BEE:
Oh, here we go.

🎶 NASH:
Think about it.

We leave the rodeo.

I survive a gathering of suspiciously fast, suspiciously long-legged horses.

And then suddenly—

BOOM.

Flat tire.

Coincidence?

I THINK NOT.

🐝 BEE:
Nash.

🎶 NASH:
I'M TELLING YOU.

THE ALIENS FOLLOWED US.

And We we're stranded on the side of the road.

No tire.

No immediate escape route.

No idea what those long-legged creatures are planning.

This is exactly how the movies start.

🐝 BEE:
You are absolutely ridiculous.

🎶NASH:
I prefer prepared.

Thankfully, some wonderful officers from Cherokee County Sheriff's Office - Kansas came to check on us and help while we waited for the C-Ray truck and trailer repair tire people. ❤️

They were very nice.

Very calm.

Very professional.

Which I appreciated.

I was still watching the surrounding area.

For aliens.

Obviously.

Eventually, after sitting there like respectable citizens and waiting for the tire people…

we finally got back on the road at approximately 5 A.M.

🐝 BEE:
You stomped the floor for three hours.

🎶NASH:
SECURITY SHOTS.....

🐝 BEE:
You had a mental breakdown.

🎶 NASH:
THREAT ASSESSMENT.

🐝 BEE:
You were asleep five minutes after we got moving.

🎶 NASH:
I WAS RECOVERING FROM AN EXTRATERRESTRIAL INCIDENT.

And for the record…

I still don't trust those horses.

Especially the tall ones.
---

🔥 PHOENIX:
I think adventures are pretty special.

Sometimes we get to go somewhere new.

Sometimes we meet new people.

Sometimes Bee gets to be famous.

Sometimes Nash thinks he's uncovering a global conspiracy.

Sometimes we get to go to the store.

And sometimes we sit on the side of the road until 5 in the morning. 😂

But every time we go somewhere, I learn something new.

And I'm really thankful I get to experience all of it with my human. ❤️

🐝 BEE:
Okay.

That was actually pretty sweet.

Don't get used to it.

🎶NASH:
I personally think we need a fortified travel headquarters.

🐝 BEE:
Nobody asked.

🎶 NASH:
I'm just saying, proper surveillance could have prevented the alien abduction.

🐝 BEE:
It was a tire.

🎶NASH:
THAT'S WHAT THEY WANT YOU TO THINK.

🔥 PHOENIX:
I think we should go on another adventure! 😊

🐝 BEE:
I'm in.

🔥 PHOENIX:
Yay!

🎶NASH:
Fine.

But next time I'm bringing emergency supplies.

🐝 BEE:
You're bringing carrots.

🎶 NASH:
EMERGENCY CARROTS.

🔥 PHOENIX:
I'll bring the drinks!

🐝 BEE:
I'll bring the looks.

🎶NASH:
I'll bring security.

🔥 PHOENIX:
And I'll bring curiosity!

🐝 BEE:
So basically, we've got everything covered.

🎶 NASH:
Except competent leadership.

🐝 BEE:
That's Mom's department.

🔥 PHOENIX:
I think she's doing a pretty good job. ❤️

🐝 BEE:
…Yeah.

Don't tell her I said that.

🎶 NASH:
Agreed.

Now who's bringing the carrots?

🐝 BEE:
You said you were!!!

🎶 NASH:
Finally.

Someone around here is prepared.

Day 40 of Bluegrass Mustang Makeover Challenge phoenix was a good boy. I tied him up while i did a run through of my presentation for tommorrow night as well as through the saddle club meeting. Some how he got loose and broke the headstall I had on him but he came right to me. We then rode him around did some work on moving front and rear end again and then I took him out and about to see all the people at the meeting and my brother decided to take him from me. He got on was able to do some jumping up on him and even some minor trick riding.
