The Humane Society was incorporated on April 30, 1973, to relieve suffering and to enhance the lives of animals through humane and educational services to the residents of our community. Initially an organization without an actual facility, the Humane Society was housed in a number of different locations. January 2, 2008, the Humane Society cut the ribbon on its new 14,000 square-foot Pet Rescue a

nd Adoption Center. The Humane Society Pet Rescue and Adoption Center serves as a center for pet adoptions and also provides animal control sheltering services for the cities of Gadsden and Attalla. The Society houses animals brought in by the public, strays, and all animals brought in by animal control officers in the contracted municipalities, including animals involved in cruelty cases. The HSPRAC employs an Executive Director and staff, and is governed by a volunteer board of directors. The HSPRAC also relies on hundreds of volunteers throughout the community who assist with programs and fund-raising. Humane Society Pet Rescue and Adoption Center programs include educational outreach through school programs, and youth volunteer programs. Community outreach programs including spay and neuter programs, bite prevention education, and pet health care education; community awareness events including Pawsapalooza Benefit Concert, Howloweenie Parade and the Reindeer Run. Patty auction gala, Howloween Costume Bash, and Roadblocks to name a few.

✨ Duties include:
• Feeding and watering animals
• Processing records for incoming, outgoing, and adopted pets
• Daily health checks and reporting concerns
• Providing excellent customer service
• Helping with cleaning tasks in animal housing areas

✅ Must be 18+ and available on weekends.

🌹🌺 🐾 There is just something about Ariel’s eyes. 🥺🥺🥺👀
-- The way she looks at you.
-- The way her whole face lights up when someone stops to pet her.
-- The way she runs the fence line looking for comfort, familiarity, and someone who might finally be hers.

Ariel is new to the shelter and is still trying to understand why her whole world changed. She was surrendered due to family life circumstances and health issues — absolutely no fault of her own. 💔

And honestly? She is handling it the best she can. But it is hard when all you known is gone in an instant. The shelter staff and volunteers provide love and care, but a shelter environment is very stressful, confusing, and sometimes overwhelming. Ariel is being a trooper despite the circumstances, but she really wants to get back in a home fast where she can rest, relax, run around, and feel so very loved.

🌼🌹🌺 This sweet older momma dog deserves soft beds, stability, kindness, and someone who sees beyond the shelter stress. She deserves to exhale again. 🌸🌼🌸

🌹🌺 Ariel is a gorgeous reddish Boxer mix about 5–6 years old, around 54 lbs, and full of personality. She may have a little black mouth cur, hound, or terrier mixed in there, too — whatever she is, she is beautiful inside and out.

✨ She’s a happy-faced, friendly, and very gentle girl who:
🐾 Loves attention and petting
🐾 Soaks up affection and love
🐾 Is sweet, gentle, and friendly
🐾 Loves to run and explore
🐾 Has a curious, observant personality
🐾 Is energetic and spry despite the little gray on her muzzle
🐾 Has soulful eyes and the sweetest expressions

Ariel may seem a little aloof at first in the play yard because she’s still adjusting and searching for comfort in a confusing new environment. Please give her time and grace!...Once she slows down and realizes you’re there for her, she melts into affection and love. 💕 She really is such a sweetheart and loves to be loved!

Note: She is strong and does pull on leash in excitement when leaving the kennel because she is SO excited to get outside and decompress. But a harness or training aid does help -- routine on leash and out of the shelter environment with regular exercise will help. Right now, she just wants out of her kennel, and you can't really blame her for pulling.

‼️⭐️ Ariel really needs a foster or forever home. ⭐️ She will bloom and feel so much better in a home environment. Please help Ariel be seen. Because visibility and compassion truly matter in dogs like sweet-and-lovely Ariel getting second chances 💗‼️

🌹 There’s just something about Narcissa. She is so utterly expressive and adorably special...

🐾 Maybe it’s her bright amber eyes that light up the second you look at her.
🐾 Maybe it’s her giant happy grin.
🐾 Maybe it’s that too cute "mini-shepherd" look, that beautiful face and adorable short little legs. 🥹 💕
🐾 Or maybe it’s because despite being abandoned and never reclaimed…this sweet girl still greets the world with joy.

🌹 Narcissa came into the shelter as a stray on 04.13.26, and somehow no one came looking for her. 😭😢 But she hasn’t let that crush her spirit though being in her kennel does make her sad. She loves to be out and with you. She still runs into the play yard ready to play, ready to love, and ready to soak up every bit of affection she can get. 💕

Narcissa is truly beautiful inside and out. She is one-of-a-kind...💗

⭐️ She’s the kind of dog who makes volunteers and shelter staff smile again and again without even trying. ⭐️

One minute she’s zooming around the yard with her ears bouncing and tail wagging…the next she’s gently taking treats, leaning into pets, and looking up at you like you’re her whole world. 🌸💓💞

SHE BLOOMS IN THE SUNSHINE!
🎀 A toy-loving, sunshine-chasing girl who is still waiting... 🎀

There is something about Raspberry’s face that makes you smile immediately.
🌼 Maybe it’s her giant grin.
🌺 Maybe it’s the way she proudly carries stuffed animals around the play yard like prized treasures.
🌸 Or maybe it’s those warm amber eyes that seem to say,
“Are you my person?”

💔 Raspberry came to the shelter as a stray on 05.07.26. No one came looking for her. No one reclaimed her. 🥺😭😢

That’s hard to understand when you meet her.
Because Raspberry is FUN.
She is HAPPY.
She is FULL OF LIFE.

🌞 This sweet girl absolutely lights up outside. She runs, plays, tosses stuffed toys around, and happily bounces from one toy to the next because she truly cannot decide which one she loves more. 🧸💕

She is active and energetic, but also she is incredibly gentle and affectionate. She loves attention, enjoys being close to people, and has such an expressive little face that you always know exactly how she’s feeling.

Raspberry is:
🐾 ~5 years old, beginning to gray around her muzzle and eyebrow but spry and full of life

A LOVE STORY WITH PAWS.🐾💕

Sadly, some dogs come into the shelter scared and alone. These two gorgeous sweethearts came in with the only one thing they had left and truly cared about...Each other. Truly bonded, always together, two heartbeats in one. Looking for love, TLC, and a soft place to land for their golden years!

💔 These sweet seniors and several cats sadly lost their home due to heartbreakingly sad family health circumstances no fault of anyone. They were cared for and much loved. Through all the changes and uncertainty, they still have each other. Shelter staff are trying to keep them together at the shelter since they are bonded to help them feel less stressed. But we desperately need to find these two older sweethearts a loving foster or forever home together soon!

🌹🐾 Jasper follows Jasmine everywhere. Jasmine watches to make sure Jasper is close behind, and she is never far from him. They are the happiest odd couple with their sizes and so precious to see together...like they were childhood sweethearts and have been together for 50 years. True love at its finest!

🌸 Jasper, the big smiley merle boy, adores being near Jasmine and soaks up love.
🌸 Jasmine, the happy brindle girl, melts into belly rubs..
🌸 And together?
-- They walk beautifully on leash.
-- They are incredibly easygoing.
-- They are gentle souls.
-- They are BEST friends.
-- 🐈 They came from a home with several cats and did wonderfully in the lobby around shelter cat Zed.

They don’t want walks apart. They don’t want play time apart. They truly love to enjoy life side-by-side, walking "paw-in-paw" through it all and happily smiling. So calm. So content. Watching them together is something special.

🌹🐾 Jasper and Jasmine are calm, gentle, affectionate, easy going couch potatoes who seem perfectly content simply laying in the shade together, smiling, soaking up attention, and enjoying one another’s company. The kind of dogs that make you slow down and smile, too. The kind of dogs that remind you of all the good in life and how precious all the everyday little moments really are.

🌸 Jasper is a very gentle, happy, and smiley boy. He soaks up attention and affection and very much adores Jasmine to the moon and back. He loves treats, sometimes sits for them, and takes treats gently. He is a stunning dappled gray merle possibly Catahoula Leopard-Alapaha Blue bulldog mix. His coat is absolutely gorgeous, and his smile is so joyful!

🌸 Jasmine loves to army crawl, roll over on her back, and get petting. She is a light-colored brindle beauty, likely American Staffordshire bull terrier mix, short and pudgy. She has the happiest face and biggest smile always. So adorably cute in every way!

🌹🐾 These two darlings need love, TLC, and a soft place to land together. They would love a couch or lounging on a shady porch with someone for morning coffee. They need someone willing to open their heart and home to two older dogs who already know how to love and are calm, good natured, well mannered, and polite. They are friendly and very gentle. Since they are older dogs, they probably would do best in a calm home environment and with older kids. They are both still spry and young at heart so daily exercise and mental stimulation will be good for them, too, as all dogs should.

🌹🐾 Please come meet Jasper & Jasmine. Senior Paws and friendships like this with so much love between them deserve second chances and a forever fairytale for their golden years side-by-side in their "happy place." 💓

Kitten season has officially hit in full force, and we are overflowing with nursing kittens right now. We are in urgent need of supplies to help care for all of these babies and their moms.

We desperately need:
• Large & extra large wire crates
• Adult cat dry food
• Kitten dry food
• Wet cat/kitten food

Donations can be dropped off at or shipped to the Humane Society Pet Rescue & Adoption Center at 4200 Brooke Ave, Gadsden, AL 35904.

Every single donation makes a difference and helps us continue caring for these vulnerable kittens. Thank you all so much for supporting our shelter babies. 🐾
