āļø OVER 100°? THEIR WALK CAN WAIT.
Hot pavement burns paws. Heatstroke can be fatal. Keep pets cool indoors with fresh water.
š¾ AVOID daytime walks, strenuous play, hot asphalt, concrete and artificial turf. Keep potty breaks brief. Never leave pets in parked cars. Shade alone isn't enough.
ā ļø WATCH FOR relentless panting, drooling, breathing difficulty, weakness, vomiting, diarrhea, confusion, staggering, seizures or collapse. Open-mouth breathing in a cat is an emergency.
šØ SUSPECT HEATSTROKE?
⢠Move out of the heat and start cooling immediately with cool tap water and a fan or A/C. Keep water away from the nose and mouth. Don't wrap in wet towels.
⢠Call a veterinarian while cooling begins, then transport promptly with A/C. If Sunnycrest is closed, contact Orange County Emergency Pet Clinics.
⢠Offer small drinks only if alert and able to swallow; never force water.
⢠Seek urgent veterinary care even if your pet seems better.
š¶ EXTRA RISK: English and French Bulldogs, Pugs, Boston Terriers, Boxers and Chow Chows; also thick-coated, overweight or older pets and those with heart or breathing problems. Any pet can overheat.
A missed walk is better than a medical emergency.
