Considering a Sugar Glider?
Sugar gliders are adorably awesome little animals and can make great pets. It's very tempting when seeing pictures of tiny joeys or someone who has their glider bonded enough they can walk around with it on their shoulder. These little guys are intelligent and can be very intuitive to their keepers. But it's important to understand they are still exotic animals.
Exotic animals come with more intricate care requirements and not all vets will see them. One of the things you will need to do if you get a sugar glider is call around and make sure you have a regular vet that will see a glider and an emergency vet that is open 24/7.
The diet for gliders, while more involved then a dog or a cat, is not really all that hard and easily becomes routine. There are three big ones to choose from:
The Pet Glider diet: https://www.thepetglider.com/pages/the-glider-nutrition-system
The OHPW diet, a good kit can be ordered from here: https://www.thepamperedglider.com/supplements.htm
The BML diet.
I personally have used the TPG diet and the BML diet, both are good. I currently use the TPG Diet and recommend it.
Cage and accessories are the next item. 2'x3' is the minimum for a pair of gliders. You may think this is too big. It's not. A single chameleon requires a 2'x4' cage and a single tortoise needs a 4'x6' table top. Again, gliders are exotic. While 2'x3' is the minimum, bigger is always better. Here are some suggestions:

The all-living things small animal version is good too.
Any of the sugar glider cages from exotic nutrition. Only the cages, save yourself some heartache and don't order the food or accessories. Www.exoticnutrition.com
Along with the cage they will need a fleece cage set, a SAFE wheel, a water bottle/silo, and toys are always a need. For a fleece cage set you will want to look off facebook or etsy.
For ease of finding, I recommend any of the vendors off the facebook group sugar glider fanatics, for cage sets or wheels.
I also suggest a small hamster water bird water silo as well as the regular glass bottle. It’s always a great idea to have a second source for water just in case.
You may have heard sugar gliders take a ton of time or that they're community animals that need a buddy. They are community animals and they usually do much, much better with a buddy. I acknowledge there are gliders that are the exception to this rule, but they are the exception, and I'm not willing to let my gliders go through being miserable to find out if they can "handle" being alone. If you already own a glider I will sell a single glider if the plans are it gets introduced to your gliders. If you do not currently own a glider, I will only sell in pairs or more. I do discount my pairs for this reason, so there's really no reason not to get more than one 😉
As for them needing a lot of time, that entirely depends on what you want your role with them to be. Yes, they need to be fed and water checked daily. If you prepare and freeze their diet, this can take all of 10 min. With a buddy, they do not technically need you to spend time with them. If you want them to be bra babies and so bonded they will ride around in your sweatshirt, then yes, you will need to spend time with them.
Gliders bond by smell with people, so even if a glider is perfectly sweet while here with me they do not know you, so you will have to take the time to bond with them yourself.
I recommend a fully enclosed bug net tent. This way, you can pop it up in a room of your house and let your gliders run around with you inside the tent. The tent keeps them in a confined space and prevents them from running under your couch or other difficult spaces. Spending time with them like this lets them get to know you without feeling confined or threatened. Bonding bags are good too.
Another trick is to get fleece fabric. Small squares worn tucked against your skin for a day or two then placed in their sleeping pouches lets them associate your smell with a member of their colony. Bigger fleece squares work great for picking up a not quite bonded glider. Simply place the square over the glider and gently ball it up in the fleece. Great for when gliders don't want to go back after tent time.
Last but not least, budget. I get asked a lot "what is your cheapest glider?" And to be frank I really want to reply with a picture of a stuffed animal glider. As an exotic animal, while yes there can be lower cost options, is not "cheap". For a standard pet pair, cage, fleece set, etc. Figure around $500. Want the cooler colors? Mosaics, cremes, leus, etc? Those are typically $350-1500 per glider.
If you want to breed, please please get gliders with lineage that are compatible with each other and do your research. Think this is expensive? Again. Exotic.
These are not hamsters. These are sugar gliders, small marsupials with huge personalities.
If you made it through all that and are ready for your gliders, send me a message! I am a Small breeder and usually don’t have very many babies, but I can help you find a baby from someone else.
I breed for all colors, but tend to have mosaics, platinums, and always the standards. Timing will determine what's available when.
PLEASE REMEMBER, we require proof of setup before any animal can leave!
